Re: Scared my self today

Turning the key off is what not to do. Loss of power brakes, loss of power steering or complete lock up of the steering. My neighbor's kid did this, resulting in him crossing into oncoming traffic and crashing. Shift to neutral and hit the brake.

It only becomes more difficult to turn the wheel and requires more pressure on the brake peddle to stop, they don't lock up or become disabled.

Doing either is fine, it just depends on the situation, as either is better than flying down the road accelerating to ever higher speeds trying to call 911 and then doing nothing.

A lot of us have experienced stuck throttles and survived.
What I find interesting is the number of people that dial 911 while accelerating out of control

Re: Scared my self today

Had it happen on my 2002 camaro because I bought different weather proof floor mats.

I think it comes with what kind of person you are.

Myself? I've been in a few panic situations before and in all of them I did exactly what needed to be done and never got into an actual accident.

The worst time was while cresting a hill a car was stopped in my lane in the way on a 40 mph road. There was a car in the oncoming lane too..... my abs light had been on and I hadn't bothered to look at it..

Either way, nailed the brakes while turning hard left, oncoming car started to stop, car behind him cut left and went into the wrong lane so I had a wall of cars infront and no where to go, ended up recovering the slide and then going hard right to slide into someones driveway.......

Luckily no cars were in that driveway...people got out and asked me if I was ok and where I learned to drive lol......(I was a go cart racer as a kid)..

Either way, when the pedal got stuck it was a REACTION to turn the key off.

On the camaro you can only turn the key off so far as it cuts the ignition.....you can still steer. You also have at least 2 pumps of brake fluid pressure.

The main mistake people make after turning off their car is pumping the brakes.....

Car rolled to a stop on the side of the road (it was another 40 mph road, I was doing 50 and maybe I hit 55 before i turned it off).

All comes down to if you know how to handle a situation or not.

People who scream and cover their eyes in a car crash......not likely to be able to handle it.
