Does anyone know anything about Scat-Craft boats. I have been searching and can't find anything about these boats or the company. They are not even listed on the NADA boat value guide or any of the other boat value guides that I have looked at. So, any information you may have will be useful. I'm assuming this was a company that was not around for very long. I would be especially interested in finding out any info concerning the quality of these boats.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Scat-Craft Boat Information????

I remember those boats! When I was a young teenager, early-mid 1970's, 2 friends had them. They were like the glastron speed boats made famous in the James Bond movie c. 1976.

One was a 14' with an 85 OMC. very fast; slid around on the turns. The other was a 16' with a 135 OMC, which I think was the biggest OB back then. Scary fast, maybe 60 mph? Big rooster tail. None of us were allowed to go out on it with the owner (15 year old) but we did anyway! legendary boat on my river.

I guess the manufacturer was short lived.

saw a 16' in a boat yunk yard a few years ago.

I guess these things really are obscure. I was looking at a 23' cuddy boat on ebay but am a little concerned that there is so little information about these boats out there.

Re: Scat-Craft Boat Information????

Well, I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the boat. For $555.00 hopefully I can't go too wrong if the seller's description is accurate (no rot, running engine, decent finish, only needs new seats, carpet, and upholstry in the cabin) I guess though that if the boat turns out to be a disaster the trailer is about worth what I paid for the boat. Keeping my fingers crossed I got a decent deal and not a 23 foot lemon. I will update this post after I go pick it up in a few days.

scat craft emblem.jpgView attachment 3626.bmpScat-Craft boats do seem to be pretty rare. I have a 1970 model myself and have never seen another. My research has found they were built by Bill Critchfield in Orlando Florida. I think you my find a bit more information on them by searching his name. He was known for building racing boats back in the 60's. There is a recent thread on Fiberglassics about his boats that I was invloved in where we posted a few pics. And on the fourm ScreamandFly there is some talk of Mr Critchfield posted by people who knew and worked with him. The Scat-Craft company went out of business for some reason in the early 70's and the asssets were bought by the people who now build Regal Boats. Good luck on your new old boat and share some pics and info when you get it.
Jack..

Re: Scat-Craft Boat Information????

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'd like to add to the relatively small pool of Scatcraft info that is available out there. Mine is a 15.5' tri-hull, 1969. Max HP is 65 and max capacity is 4. My Scatcraft emblems were broken and I couldn't find more, so I removed them. Had to replace the transom when I first bought it in North Carolina about 12 years ago. My dad recently replaced the floor for me and did a lot of other nice work to it when I was rebuilding the motor. I don't want to double post too many of my pics in different threads, but you can search my name on the forums to get to other pics of the boat. Here are a few with before and after:
