I know you guy's are trying to help, but neither one of you know crap about boats. Both of you just complicate matters on here with your ballpark guess's.. I know I shouldn't be saying this to anyone on this board or any other, but sometimes your info just compilcates the problem at hand by you just guessing at the problem. I'm saying this from the stand point of new guy to the water that reads your stuff..

I've been on the water for 42 years and the last 15 as a Marine Surveyor. I just figured I would confront you like this instead of contradicing(sp)you on a continuing act..

I'm sorry but I had to say this.....Dunk

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

That is one way to do it Dunk. It is'nt right and it is'nt fair. If you think so I want to know what they have said that is soo wrong in your opinion. (Are you joking?)

There is so many questions and so many people here. I think everyone has a right to suggest their best solution. It is up to the guy who asked the question to decide what the answers is worth to him.

Are they misleading the new guys? I'm sorry but you will have to chase these ballpark guess's everytime. That's my opinion. Prove me wrong, show us some really bad answers and I agree to this general smack in the face style.

Do I have something to with this? Yes I think I and everyone else reading here.

We can have a debate or we can kill it with silence.

Schematic and 12 footer?

/Bear

"You have an OMC engine......use their parts. Trying to save a buck or two will cost you later on. Believe me I've been there... " This is a DUNK quote however you direct someone else to NAPA for OMC parts in a differant post!

Get real. If you do not practice what you preach get away from the pulpit.

EVERYONE on this board gives good advice and ballpark suggestions. This is what makes this board such an asset to boaters. We all live on budgets and all like to save a buck or two (I'm no Bill Gates :) )and this board helps. I could not fathom (nor calculate)the amount of money that has been saved by the suggestions, advice and ball park answers.

Please, do not single out and point fingers this board is important to many. However, your input is well taken too.

Have a good day. Hey how about boosting performance with new muffler bearings and titanium piston return springs? :D

I absolutely do not agree. I am disappointed with the arrogance of your post. As has been stated, let each person decide for themselves
what helps them and what doesn't. Your quote " I know I shouldn't be saying this to anyone on this board or any other" sums it up perfectly.

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

Wow! Did I confuse you on something? I have not been a marine surveyor for the last 15years, nor have I been on the water 45years.I got you beat there by 3years (I'm 49years old, and have been "on the water" since I was old enough to wear a PFD).My father owned a fish camp with boat rental and guide service, which is where I grew up.
I am NOT a certified marine mechanic, just an old guy who hss been around the slips a while. If you'll look at my profile, you'll find I am in the environmental inspection trade. I plan on retiring in 2years. I know more about 2 cycle MX beaters than I do about 2cycle outboards,As I raced em. I actually won the state points championship in 1974,250CC class. But you must admit, there are lots of things in common to both.
I don't know a thing about anything I have not learned about or encountered, but have a fair memmory. I have had years of experiance keeping boats going, both at my father's camp, with my own stuff, and in the backyards and docks of many folks in Florida. For instance, I don't know jack abt "winterizing an engine",I NEVER HAD TO. So,you'll note, even tho I have read enough about it,that I could probably protect my equipment,I NEVER reply to those.
I learn as much as teach. But this classroom
doesn't come with a single instructor. We all help each other out as best as we can here. Our only grade is whether we get to go out in the boat we are werkin on,after all is said and done, and maybee even have enough money left over for the bait and fuel.
That is the way it is here. It has worked for iboats ,and most of it's users.

My advise to you is to continually contradict me if you think I am confusing the issue,or just plain wrong, instead of this "you don't know crap" crap.

The tactics you employed here are not unfamiliar to me. But next time you want to humiliate, the personal approach leaves much less colaterl damage in it's wake. My personal opinion is, it has ruined some pretty good websites.Sites I used to frequent. But i got tired of the bitter people, even tho i stayed-out of the fray.
There is a better way. Look up at the top of this post, and click on the little icon that shows a profile of the poster. Some of us (who aren't affraid of hackers or anyone else), will put our email address in there. This makes it possable to email someone directly, and humiliate them one-on-one....Interesting concept, huh? See? You learn something new every day, don't ya?
I am not assuming you know more or less than I do about boats, notors or women. But if I did, I would also speak my mind, as you have. JUST NOT HERE!! That was quite low,IMHO.

The next time buisness falls-off, log-in, follow my replies with replies of your own. And I will do the samey same.Let's help people. How bout it,DUNK?
Wanna get with the program?

You guy's are right. I should never have posted this. Maybe a beer or two too many when I hit the button. Everybody opens their mouth when they shouldn't once in awhile. Again I'm sorry, it was not my place to post this...

I did try posting my email when I did the profile, but from what I remember it didn't come up. dunk@plexi.com

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

Dunk, welcome to the democracy of the board....right or wrong, your posts mean as much as everybody else's.....I too chafe at some of the responses given....sometimes a shotgun full of double aught where a single BB would do.......this board is at its best when the replys come from personal experience, worst when someone spews something he heard at the ramp, or his buddy told him......but what's the alternative? havin people not post because somebody might jump down yer throat? that wont do, gotta have butts in the seats for this to work....the best I have found when someones reply might be alittle 'off' is post below them an shine a little brighter.... and if that does no good, well there are lots of others here worthy of a little help...

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

Yes,but it is hard sometimes to troubleshoot over the web. I mean, it isn't like you can reach over the monitor, and try something you know can be the repair for the symptoms given. This is why many folks reply with "I nedd more info on your particular motor, and what it is doing"....
I tend to search out the 0-reply mssgs when I logon. It's best to give someone a starting point.
Do I have all the answers? Hell no. But I may have a procedure the broken boater can try, and I offer it.
If it drives you nuts, I am sorry. As I said. It really would be best to contradict me right there, under my reply to the problem...Respond with what YOU think it is.
ODDD1 does, and we never have had any problems. I respect the collective knowlage of this site, and it really is what makes it so special..That,and the friendly way it is delivered.
The more we all contribute, the better it will be, IMHO. Esspecially to the poor guy with a broken boat, and zero replies..Those get me.

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

Come on guys...lets kick this topic. These comments are taking the fun out of this BB. Nobody out there knows everything. If someone's post bothers you...question it! Or even better, as ODDD1 says, add to it!
I'm feeling a little uncertain. If the general consenses is that my comments are wrong or misleading, I'll leave as swift as I came. I would never want to be accused of tarnishing a BB of this nature.

WOW! - Dunk, I don't know what possessed you to post your original comments about 12 footer and schematic, but I for one am happy to receive any help they offer. It's near impossible to diagnose a problem over the internet, but they give it a shot - and for that I'm thankful. It at least gives me other options to check when I'm standing there scratching my head or in some cases it could give me a good place to start. Dunk, I'm happy to see you apologize. The one reason I appreciate this board above all others is because no one seems critical of others ideas or input (until today). I've been on some other boards where that's all they do is critize each other and really offer no helpful advice. Come on Dunk, no more put downs please. Thanks. As 12 footer suggested - just send him a personal e-mail, or at least be a little more tactful when you decide to be critical of someones input. I believe there's a place for everyones knowledge and input on this board at one time or another. Some of us know more about certain type outboards, trolling motors, starting and deep cycle batteries, sonar, etc. I don't think everyone knows everything about everything. So I encourage anyone with helpful advice, or at least with advice they feel is helpful, to please continue to contribute to this board without fear of put downs or personal attacks. :(

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

As a regular here ,I can say that even the pro's have stepped on their wee wee's from time to time.I know I have , but this site has a natural system of checks and balances that seems to weed out misinformation. In. that we have a community that cares for each other and loves boating.

Re: schematic and 12 footer...

This board works from the thoughtful input of many boaters, not just one "expert". It's a group effort, and all voluntary effort at that. I've read (and probably posted) tips that are off the mark, but the thought behind them are the same: If your rig is broke, I'll do what I can to help. If you know of a tech with 100% never-fail troubleshooting via the internet, we'd all like to meet this genius! Thanks for the follow-up apology, that did take guts. I hope everyone keeps posting and sharing their experiences so we can all learn more about our powerplants. Now that the carbon is cleaned out of my system, let's throttle back up! :D
