The Up button on my trim handle does not work so I always use the trailer button to raise the outdrive. The Lower button works.

Anyone has any instructions on how to dissassemble the handle so I can check on the contacts on the switch? I want to fix this problem before it migrates to the Down button.

Thanks.

Re: Schematic of Quicksilver Trim handle

I have exactly the same problem with my 89 130hp alpha one, I took the handle apart (just 2 philips screws) but I couldnt find any thing wrong with it. I checked it with a meter but with out a schematic it is tough to know what you are looking for I will be watching your post hopefully somone has some info

Have you guys checked the trim limit sender on the drive?

Merc Manual- troubeshooting trim

Try page 1C14, 15 . . . There's a wiring diagram there too. Still could be in the handle, I have had a wire actually come loose on the up trim, but the procedure calls to start at the sender . . .

Would a defective trim sender on the drive affect the switch? My UP button does not function at all regardless of the position of the outdrive. Just curious. I know my trim sender does not work but I just don't pay attention to it since I have installed trim tabs and I am happy with it. Thanks for the diagram.

Not the trim sender on the drive. The trim limit switch. If it's defective, or the wires rotted off (common) or way out of adjustment (also common) the up button will not work. But it's not the buttons fault.
Read AND UNDERSTAND what the troubleshooting procedures are telling you so you don't start fixing and breaking things that aren't a problem. Trust me, there is no switch repair in that handle, only replace. And you don't want to do that job anyway.

Yeah I lamost edited my reponse to say switch, but I thought the word limit took care of it. Anyway, Don is right, follow the procedure . . . but . . . my personal experince is that the wire to the switch in the handle can get rubbed until it breaks, simple connector can fix that. Mine was the Classic 3000.
