Maybe 5 min. for every 10ft of length would be enough.

4. I always cover it, even if I know it won't rain that night,
and I will use it in the morning. Maybe I wouldn't cover it,
if it was beached, and I was camping.

Answer - Depends on the size of the boat. Mine are 16 foot and 5 minutes is reasonable.


4-Under what conditions would you not cover your boat?
Answer - If the inside of the boat is wet, and I know that the weather will be dry for a few days, I usually leave the cover off until the interior has a chance to dry. Other reasons would be if I were going to go out again and know the weather will be dry until the next outing I may leave it off. Other than that I most always put the cover on.

3. roughly 10 min. I have a cabin cruiser so I'm only covering my deck/cockpit. Keeping it "water resistant" with the zippers and snaps takes some time but well worth keeping everything dry while in the slip.

4. If the carpeting got wet, and there was a moldy/mildewy smell, and the forecast was sunny for the next few days I would leave the cover off and the bimini wrapped up to air out/dry out the deck.

josh, i'm not sure if this will help w/ your project, but here goes...
i cover my boat when i'm staying overnight on the water.
it takes 5 - 10 minutes
i keep my boat in a car port, because of the roof, it's the ONLY time the boat is not covered. the main reason for cover is outside w/ the potential of bad weather.

4 Conditions - living in AZ, aluminum boat, seats get removed, engine gets covered.

Your questions leave room for assumption (ex. I assumed that the time question was relative to a simple boat cover that must be removed for travel - essentially a shower cap for a boat.) However, seeing as this is an informal poll on a forum, I am also assuming that the exacting nature of the answers is not all that important - informal poll, in essense.

2- B. Its only 11' long.

4- Well the only reason I do cover it is if the cats think that is their home or if i leave it out in the rain for some reason.

I never cover my current boats (we seldom fold the Bimini)

N/A - Don't even own a cover

3-How long do you feel is an appropriate length of time for covering your boat?

N/A - Again, it NEVER happens - BUT in the old days about 10 minutes for 2 people to securely fasten a custom fit "Towing" cover on a 20'+/- power boat (no flybridge).

4-Under what conditions would you not cover your boat?Why?

We live along the water and (hope to) use our boat several times in a week. We like the fresh water/rain to rinse it off.

Beyond that, I am in a wheelchair and can not effectively get around the entire boat to cover it while on the hoist.

I have it waxed twice a year, and we rinse it down after (almost) every outing.

It is stored bow high on a lift with float switches on the bilge pumps and a solar trickle charger on the battery to keep it charged.

If the Department of Environmental Protection would allow it I would have a thatched roof Chickee hut (that's Floridian for boat house ) over the boat hoist and adjacent dock area, but apparently that could potentially cause harm to the seagrasses in our pristine water that I pay a riduclulous amount of taxes to have my boat sitting above. Sorry if I come off a bit sarcastic, but I feel better now.

4) when i'm camping in my boat and the weather is nice. when the weather is cool or bad i put up a back canvas for full coverage of the inside. the outside always remains uncovered while in use. it's either in use or covered in the driveway. it resides under a tree. so upon return, the cover is one of the first things that happen because of animals and trees debit droppings.....

only reason for leaving it uncovered in the drive would be to dry out if it gets wet inside. which it don't usually get.... or it's being serviced. and even then, only the part being serviced is uncovered.....

We have a 20ft pontoon. We have a house trailer at the lake where the boat is stored in a covered lift.

1. after every day.
2. 5-10 mins
3. 5-10 is good
4. The only time it is not covered with the boat cover after each day is if we are staying more then one day.

The fishing boat 14ft is never covered with a boat cover but is in a covered lift.
