Scorching Hot Riser - passages clear, water flowing good.

My starboard riser is scorching hot after running. Unfortunately I left my temp gun in the truck but its impossible to hold it for more than one second.

Engine temps never shoot up, thermostat feels ok, port riser is ok. Thermostat and impeller changed a couple months ago.

Pulled riser and manifold today and all passages were clear. Water flowing freely from thermostat into manifold. flowng through manifold and riser and out the exhaust smoothly. Riser still hot as hell. I used to be able to hold it for like 5 seconds but now? Barely a second.

Other than flow restrictions (which there aren't any) what makes it so damn how now?

(ETA, I have no flappers on this engine, I checked)

You may want to re-check the water passages and hoses, etc. You have a lack of flow in cooling water to the one side

Thats what I was figuring but the water flow seems consistent between both sides. In and out.

Ayuh,..... Is this in the water, or on the wagon,....

If on the wagon, just the angle of the motor could be the issue,....

If the risers were getting too hot the oil pressure/hot exhaust squawker would sound

In the water.

I ordered a replacement gasket for the riser but it wont be here until next week. Would I be able to make a cork/rubber gasket to use for troubleshooting in the mean time. I would only use it in for a couple hours like that until I get OEMs.

I really need to get my temp gun on it, maybe its not dangerous hot and I am just being a wuss.

Ditto on no cork, the gasket t can fail and hydrolock motors and turn the whole thing to crap. Not worth the risk. Riser baskets and the assocIated sealing is nothing to mess with.
