Guys, - Got the 18' Holiday restovation out yesterday:

Everything was AWESOME - except it wasn't at Lake ANNA. The 18 is twice the boat of my old Nassau - and rode the chop like a big glasser. I forgot the Garmin - but at 3500 RPM I think I was 30+. When I triimed up - got a little torque steer - so I'll adjust the tab - but overall - a full day of 4+ hours run time.

The only 2 things were - my old temp gauge showed me overheating - which I wasn't - led to some freak out issues. But - apparently I was going too fast for the paint - pulled paint + PRIMER clean off. My Father In LAw thinks I did not clean the alumimum enough. Thoughts - anyone have this - Clay?

I really wish I didn't have to say that the bottom of my boat is currently looking EXACTLY like this

I didn't prime though. I thoroughly scuffed and cleaned the original paint job that was in great shape and top coated with Easypoxy. It's horrible. I can't wait to see how mine looks after a week at the shore in saltwater this August :(

Did you use a metal etch primer first? Was the surface scuffed up for the primer to stick? did you wipe it down with reducer or something before painting? I have seen all these things have the same results.

If you have a power washer I would go to town on it and see where all the paint is not stuck. A good trick on a surface like you have (not flat and all the rivets) is to use the brown 3M scratch pads and comet with some water and go over the surface. The pad with the comet is the same as 400 grit sandpaper and the comet will also remove anything from the surface that will cause the primer not to stick. Top this off with a good acid etch primer and the paint should stick like glue.

I knew I shouldn't have used the NOX on the first trip out ;)

My first reno did the same....I stripped, sanded, cleaned, used acid etch primer and used Interlux paint....apparently they wanted NO part of the bottom of my boat and are now in the bottom of the Allegheny Resevoir!!!

My game plan is to go the season and take it from there - I think I'll pay someone to blast it - and then I will leave the bottom paint free....

Still would like to know what i did wrong.....besides going too fast!

Hey Bwana Dan - my cracked block help up fine!

Glad to hear the JB Weld did you good. Sorry about your paint.

Go easy on the nitrous eh. Short term gain, long term loss.

I only use the NOx at stoplights.....

Blower still on order - and I have to modify the doghouse for it!!;)

Great fun though - engine ran well - interested in knowing what speeds I get.

ROFLMAO. Only at stoplights?

My brother let his 20 year old take out his 455 Trans Am. He asked the boy's girlfriend "So how many patches you guys lay?". She says, "What?" Bro says "come clean, I smell burnt rubber on you, you both stink".

I want to bump up the HP in my 140. I need another 20 ponies. Just in case a storm rolls up on me, while I'm at a stoplight.:p

Ezmo - it's because our rigs are built for SPEED! Paint peels right off....I actually think I lost some hair yesterday.....Rigs like the Liquid Limo are built for pleasure - hence no paint issues!:D
