Scott-Atwater...Year?

I was just given an old Scott-Atwater 22hp. The serial # is 1353110. Does anyone know what year this engine may be, and whether or not I may be able to find a manual and parts? I really wanted the engine to simply tear it down to see what makes it tick, but it was apparently running fine before the owner died and it was retired. It looks to be in great shape. Any information or advice for this beginner would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Scott-Atwater...Year?

You have a 1958 model. You should be able to find service parts for this rig. Napa Auto parts may be able to help. There is also a Scott-Atwater site on the web. Your motor is probably in good shape, but in need of service work. This would consist of cleaning the fuel system Cleaning the ignition system and replacing parts where necessary, gaskets, points, plugs, condencers, floats ,etc. You will also need to replace (with out a doubt) the water pump empeller and inspect the cooling system. This all sounds like a lot of stuff, not really, it's just standard maint, stuff. You should be able to find a book at the public library to help you along in a general way. As for specific points on your model you my have to ask the scott guy or some one here may have an answer for you. I have some info and expirence with Scott-Atwaters, but it is very limited and not with your model. Keep us up to date on how your doing with it.

Thanks so much for your reply and your optimism! I will start by looking for the manual, and I'll get cracking as soon as I get some information out of it. Thanks for the parts leads.

Start here:

maybe here:

and the always helpful Doug Penn for used parts:

That will get you well launched toward a dependable classic on the back of your boat. Tom
