I was out in my former employers back 40 the other day and found his scout model 153 sitting in the hot Texas sun without a cover on it. On the back of the boat sat a 1993 Johnson 70 hp model J70TLETS. The story on is it was purchased when it was a couple of years old, stuck it in the back and never used it. He said he would sell it to me cheap so I went back to have a closer look and see what did and didn't work. Surprisingly there was only a couple of minor things wrong that I could find. The finish of the boat looked very good except some grey spots that looked like would clean up with a little work. The finish was not chalky and had a uniform look to the color. The paint on the outside of the motor was chalky as would be expected.
I wanted to see if the motor would start, run and pump water but didn't expect it to after sitting for so long without a little work. I decided if it did those things I still would only run it a very short period until I had a chance to rebuild the water pump. Surprisingly it started right up,sounded and idled good and push water out but not a great deal. Looked like everything was in pretty good working order all considered so I bought it for $1200.00!
If anyone could tell me about the make and model of this boat and how to clean up the finish I would be very thankful. I could not find a serial # or date of manufacture. Thanks
