I was out in my former employers back 40 the other day and found his scout model 153 sitting in the hot Texas sun without a cover on it. On the back of the boat sat a 1993 Johnson 70 hp model J70TLETS. The story on is it was purchased when it was a couple of years old, stuck it in the back and never used it. He said he would sell it to me cheap so I went back to have a closer look and see what did and didn't work. Surprisingly there was only a couple of minor things wrong that I could find. The finish of the boat looked very good except some grey spots that looked like would clean up with a little work. The finish was not chalky and had a uniform look to the color. The paint on the outside of the motor was chalky as would be expected.

I wanted to see if the motor would start, run and pump water but didn't expect it to after sitting for so long without a little work. I decided if it did those things I still would only run it a very short period until I had a chance to rebuild the water pump. Surprisingly it started right up,sounded and idled good and push water out but not a great deal. Looked like everything was in pretty good working order all considered so I bought it for $1200.00!

If anyone could tell me about the make and model of this boat and how to clean up the finish I would be very thankful. I could not find a serial # or date of manufacture. Thanks

Nice find. Looks to have registration numbers on it so there should be paper work for it. That would have all the info. Pictures are kind of small to make out any details.

Oops looks like these are the same size and I can't figure out how to delete them. I'll have to resize my pics some more and try and find the ideal for posting.

Best way to post pics is via Photobucket and then copy and paste the IMG Code.

I'll try this one more time. The problem is they don't delete when I delete them!

So what about a paper trail? Does the owner still have any? Did they have any?
