Screw it or glue it?

Hi there people!Can someone explain to me briefly the pros and cons of screwing or glueing the new floor to the stringers prior to foaming and glassing?Thanks!

everyone i know just screws, someone mentioned using dow 5200, if you ever need to get underneath, it ain't possible. see my post after yours, in plywood floor joints.

My only concern is not to drill into the well- glassed stringers.And normally you don`t expext to go back to flooring any time sooner when you currently repair the floor.Is it that hard to grind off to level the remains of an old glue like 5200 for example,if you have to do it sometime in the future?

5200 is like steel, elmers carpenter glue is stronger than the wood, if you tear a guled piece apart, the wood comes apart, before the glue. you never know when a stump, log, beer bottle will hole your hull, and you need to go in.

I once worked for a guy who built a 50' sailboat in the late 1970s. He glued everything together, screwed it, then removed the screws after the glue set. His attitude was, if you don't trust the glue, don't bother to use it.

Don't know how the boat turned out, but the guy's alive to tell the tale.

I am doing both. I am the guy tashasdaddy is referring to, use 5200 and then screws. I want to use the 5200 for strength and also to seal the floor to the stringers. I do not want water from the bilge getting to the foamed areas between the stringer and floor, thus the sealer.

If you use any adhesive, you probably have to mechanically remove the adhesive if you were to remove the floor, which is the case with 5200. If I need access, then I will probably have to cut out sections of the floor. Something that I do not plan on doing.

You can in theory do both and be okay. Pre-drill and coat the screws with 4200 befor you assemble. The 4200 will seal the threads and is removable. using 4200 beneath the decking will also work and you can have the best of all worlds.

If you do go with 5200 you could be asking for trouble in the future IF things have to come apart.
