I have a volvo 280 with a 12 3/4 flywheel and I noticed a screw/bolt on the top of the bellhousing above where the main shaft goes thru. After opening it up it appears empty inside(no oil or grease) except a little bit of a grey paste on the bottom of the bolt.
My question is what goes in there,how much and how is it added? I am assuming it is for lubrication of the bearings.
second question, how do you tell the age and condition of the bearings?
