Hey help me out with this ..... I'm gonna have to install a bow eye on the monte carlo if I hope to winch it onto the trailer.... I'm trying to decide where I want to put it.... there is a reinforced area way up high but I would need to make my winch stand over 5 feet tall.... To make it that tall would take ALOT of strength out of itand require more fabrication than I wanna mess with... SOOO I''m gonna build a backing plate for it and put it much lower .... Maybe even low enough to line up with my existing winch stand but probably have to raise it a little.

So I was thinking the bottom of the scum line marked the water level but then I got to thinking that might be wrong..... I've done alot of boating but never had one wet slipped..... I would just go float it but without an eye getting it back on the trailer could be quite an adventure

My hull is similar to yours and mine is located about 4" above where your red stripe is. Looks like it would work pretty well with your winch height.

I'm thinking, if you are going with the existing winch stand, that the bow eye should end up against the bottom of the upper roller.

Ideally the winch stand should be higher.

In order to pull the boat straight on the trailer with the winch, put the boweye as shown by blue in the picture. The red line idicates the cable coming off your winch. It would then be pulling staight, not up (from below the bottom roller) or down (if it was above the top roller).

I definately apreciate the input guys but what I need to know is where is the water line on this boat... After I find that I will make the determination on how high the eye needs to be... I don't want the eye getting hit by waves on a regular basis... It also has to be above or below the bottom of the rope locker...

If the height works with the existing stand the great... If not I will cut it apart and weld up a taller upright..... I just don't want to go way up.

It looks like I can leave it as is and start drilling.... would put it in the same place as this one

Yes, I put mine in the same spot where last picture shows. Mine is Monte Carlo too.

Don't worry about waves hitting the eye, just seal it good with 4200.
(make sure your hull isn't cored there or I'd also coat the holes with marine tex first to seal the core then install eye with 4200)

The most important thing to make sure of is what Don S said that it pulls straight and under the first roller.

Under the roller keeps it on the trailer and if it pulls up or down it will not only be harder but you'll be trying to break your boat everytime.

As for water line it is the scum line, that's what makes the line the bottom paint is just following a good line to end it at.

Re: ?????scum line vs water line?????

I'm not concerned with a big wave hitting it but didn't want it near the water line.... It will be sealed but bow eyed are notoriously hard to keep sealed because of the force that is constantly applied to them.... It is hard on the sealant..... the hull isn't cored anywhere.... installing is no problem and I am going to fabricate a formed and gusseted backing plate out of 3/8" steel.... What I was asking is what part of the scum line was at the water line top or bottom.... I believed it was the bottom but was not absolutely certain.......

Anyhow I found a pic so all is well...... Again thanks guys for the input.
