Scuppers in bowrider

i have a 19' imperial boat that is a bowrider with a 3.0l merc and have made it open in the back to fish around the coast of georgia. can you put scuppers in the transom to drain water if i take any on while out off the coast a little ways

you could, but i think i'd be hard to do on a i/o.
the way i understand a scupper is that it is an opening at below deck level that allows water to flow off the deck and back into the water via the scupper mounted below deck level... that is what i'd think would be hard to do. to get the scupper below deck level, as below deck level on the i/o's i've had may already be below water level. + i/o speedboats usually have a bilge below water level. this is where the water on the deck drains to with no way to capture it and send it overboard prior to it getting into the bilge....
my feeling is to have a good, operational bilge pump. if your overly concerned about taking on water. maybe add a second bilge pump?
you must be fishing is some pretty tall surf.. have you been taking on water before to bring up this question?

it totally depend on the construction of your boat. my Chris Craft, has scuppers, to drain the cockpit. just a fitting in the cockpit, a hose that is attached to the scupper, that is thru the transom.

Ziggy, Our water off the Ga coast can go from glass smooth to 6 to 8 foot seas and as close together as 3 to 4 seconds, so it would be real easy to take on water.

it totally depend on the construction of your boat.

i'd sure think that's true. i guess from your statement about your boat that the deck is above the waterline?
w/o being able to put mine in the water and looking. i'm near sure my deck is at, or below the waterline. my boat has a weird deck though (inner hull liner)... in my case, i don't think it'd be a candidate for scuppers..

that sounds a little too exicting to me... maybe scuppers and two bilge pumps in that surf in a 19' bowrider... a couple of scoops of water and ya'd be drowned for sure..

bowrider when in rough water need to have a Bow Cover that snaps on, with the pole in the center.
