I have a 1989 1.6 with manual steering, and the steering arm assembly is almost rusted through. I can buy an intact and running 1990 1.6 with hydraulic steering; can I convert hydraulic to manual? I can buy the entire 1990 motor for less than I can buy the part for the steering arm assembly for the 1989. Any suggestions?

Re: Sea Drive Steering Conversion

You can use standard engine and convert it to a seadrive ,the mounting is at the upper and lower motor mounts,it will require the powerhead to be removed, there are many outboard salvage yards that you can purchase parts from, seadrive parts are getting hard to get,I have a tilt ram in great shape ,there were a few changes in the seadrive line during he yrs,but again,I had seadrives with hydraulic steering and cable, the cable used the standard steering arm regular outboards use

Thanks for the welcome and the info. I think I will purchase the 1.6 with hydraulic just for parts and continue to look for a steering arm assembly. If the assembly is the same as for a 115/140 outboard it may not be that hard to find. Anymore information would be helpful.

MIKESEA, You are my hero of the day. I looked at the parts diagram of a 1989 140hp. and you are correct it is the same assembly. Now I'm on a mission to find one. Any salvage yards you would suggest. I'm located in Leesburg,Fl.
