i have a 1973 mercury 7.5hp and would like to know if it would hurt to mix seafoam with my regular gas tank while i'm fishing to help clean my motor? If so what ratio would i use to a 6 gal. tank and would it smoke alot with the additive added? Thank you for your help! mike12

Re: sea foam

Using Seafoam that way is more of a maintenance application, and will not really clean your engine. Follow the Decarbing FAQ to decarb your engine.

Decarb FAQ

Re: sea foam

I don't know, I have seen it clean my plugs. I throw a few cans in my tank every 3rd or 4th fillup. It has done me right. It is about the only snakeoil I pass on........

Re: sea foam

Some of the guys at work with diesel trucks commented to me that they ran better after using Seafoam. Certainly can't hurt!

BTW Seafoam in the fuel will help keep an engine clean and will probably, eventually, clean up a dirty engine. However, the decarb 'shock' treatment would be more effective in that case and if the motor was badly 'coked' up the only way to properly treat it.

HTH.......ed
