Re: sea foam

Cleaner, good stuff. I caution you though to make sure everything leading up to the carbs is clean, especially the tank. If you add it to the tank, it can clean everything out of the tank and dump it into your carbs. Chunks of rust and shellac may move through the fuel lines and get lodged in your carbs. You can get it at auto parts stores. (My NAPA carries it intermittently) And for less than 10 bucks, it's worth a shot. If deposits are heavy, you will need something stringer like actually dis-assembling and brushing/scraping/poking out the brown stuff.

Re: sea foam

I used it on my 71' 800 last week and it helped it greatly. I followed the instructions included in this forum on the Engine FAQ.

Absolutely! I run SeaFoam in my Yamaha XJ650 Maxim motorcycle. 4-Cylinder - 4 stroke. It's a good product that stabilizes the fuel in low dosages, and in higher dosages, it, combined with gasoline in the fuel system, is used to clean varnish and other gunk from the carbs, cylinders, and everything in between without having to pull parts.

It's no replacement for a good thorough physical carb cleaning on an old engine.. but it's a good start. i.e. If you've got a clogged pilot jet and the seafoam can't dissolve it, then you'll still have to pull the carb & clean it..

(No - I'm not biased at all towards SeaFoam, even if they DID help sponsor a motorcycle carb clinic that I held at my home here in Dallas this summer) (grin)

Rex S.

NTCC Carb Clinic
NTCC Pics
