Sea Hawk Marine Paint

Has anybody used this paint and is it better than the others? I currently use Act for the hull and Trilux for my stern drive. The boat is pulled in October in MA and the sterndrive has a serious barnacle problem. (The hull is slimy but no barnacles.) I would prefer to use a brushable paint for the stern drive but it seems Sea Hawk only offers a spray.
Any info on Sea Hawk paints would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Re: Sea Hawk Marine Paint

As I am a certified applicator of Sea Hawk .. I can tell you there stuff is pretty good :) .

Act is IL's basic line of paint .. I Dont think ACT is best for salt water applications IMHO ( Barnacles = salt ). But it seems to be working for ya.

For Drives I go with Primicon and Trilux 33 ( spray cans ). I dont know why you would want to Brush the drive .. but you can get trilux 33 in qts or gals in cans.

Shark Skin is some cool stuff :) .

Re: Sea Hawk Marine Paint

My big problem is the stern drive- Trilux seems to allow plenty of barnacles by the end of the season. Is Primicon a Sea Hawk product? The reason I like to brush is because I have to paint outdoors and it is always windy the day I need to do it.
Shark Skin is non-ablative. How would it fare over Act?
Thanks for your help YD!

Re: Sea Hawk Marine Paint

Primcon is IL's primer coat.. its not Sea Hawk.

Sea Hawk sells mostly in qts/gallon pails just like anyone else .. dunno about there drive paints specifically.

Give them a call and Im sure they will help you out on what to use on there products ( I believe there main station is in FL ).

As far as bottom paints .. you have to determine if you want an ablative, biocide or hard epoxy. They all have there pros and cons and should be determined with how the boat is used ( and how often ).

I know there are soo many paints out there that can make your head spin. Just research a little about the different types and Why they are applied for different applications. Your not going to put an ablative on there if your not using your boat .. you are not going to put an ablative on a 100 knot speed monster either. Find your window of what you use your boat for and pick the best window for the paints available.

Just make sure if you go something High in copper you protect your drives with the appropriate primers and prep.
