I saw on the forum linked where they had used a conversion system for the points to a modern style ignition system. I'm just curious how they got it to work since the point system is cam based and not magnetic based for timing. Or if someone has a link to a system that wold work on a 65 Sea King Chrysler 20hp outboard that would be great.

Are you talking about the NOVA 2 system. The only way I would put that on my motor is if the parts were available nowhere in the known universe. The points and condenser system is worlds better than those are.

Yeah, those or the Mega Fire 2 systems. I had seen a number of people with positive feedback on them. I've built automotive engines both standard and high horsepower (800+) modern and vintage. I've always replaced points for HEI or something other than points and the ones on this boat are fried. I've sanded down, set them a couple of times now. Every other time I take it out I drop a cylinder and have to limp back. I've never seen points be reliable more than a season without maintenance whereas HEI and other systems can last years with minimal effort. There's a reason they stopped using them in the early 70's on cars.

It sounds like your condensers are fried put this in the chrysler/force forum guys who are really knowledgeable there. I have had points in my motors and they last for years. Replacing points with a great system like HEI is not the same as replacing points with a system like nova or megafire. Like I said if I couldn't find the right parts in the known universe then I would consider it. Ask the moderator to move this to the chrysler forum.
