I recently purchased a sea king 5 model#gg8960a serial#75x690342. It ran fine a week ago. Over the weekend i let a buddy of mine borrow it. Upon returning it he said it wasnt running well. He also told me he had just eyed out mixing instead of putting in the correct mixture. i emptied the gas out of the tank, put in the correct mixture. it starts fine and runs strong for about 1 min, then starts to sputter and then stalls out. once it starts to stall if i pull out the choke it will keep running but very poorly. any ideas? thanks.

Hmm...sounds like a clogged main jet, to me. The only other suggestion would be not to loan an outboard to that particular guy, since he can't be bothered to properly mix the fuel and oil.

Could be just the flow of gas from the tank. There may be a strainer in the tank and check the supply to the carb. Also be sure the vent is open and clear.

That is a 1957 motor made by Gale Products Division of OMC. It is a Gale model 5D14. They are great running motors, BUT they all have bad (cracked) coils unless they have already been replaced. Have yours been replaced? If not, you might as well address that problem before you even think about trying anything else. Your symptoms are high on the list of how they act with bad coils.
