I have a 5HP Sea King by Montgomery Ward #GG18736D made by Gale Products which is a 1962 Vintage. I was replacing the impeller on the pump and noticed I had some lube seeping around the driveshaft seal so I decided to replace the seal with #0300599. In literally ripping out the seal the housing broke that hold the seal and acts as the inlet and lower half of the waterpump chamber. The housing has a bronze bushing which the driveshaft turns and the seal is pressed in on top of the bushing. The exploded view my dealer has is actually from a 1968 unit not my 1962 and it doesn't show this lower housing. Does anyone have a manual and know what the OEM or replacement number might be for this lower housing assembly as well as any ideas where I might get one.

Thanks in advance of anyone's assistance! ...Mark

Original was 376074 bearing housing, which is no longer available. However, the newer 382796 bearing housing will work, but takes a different seal, 314167 (18-2024 here at iboats). I assume the seal comes with the housing, but you know how dangerous assumptions can be. Gasket below the housing is 303339

Is the replacement housing going to only be available through the dealer? Thanks for your help!

Yes, unless you can find a used one. Go to www.aomci.org and place a free want ad on their Webvertize page.

Hey just wondering if you had to pull the power head to pull the gearcase off to get to the impeller? I would appreciate a reply. I have very same engine. Thanks much John

As I understand it on the 62 you have to pull the power head to unhook the shift shaft.

Yes. You will need a new 306205 powerhead gasket and a 303355 seal gasket and a 303347 o-ring

Yes, that lower unit is just like what was used on the old Johny/Rude 5 1/2's. You will have better luck finding a lower unit for one of those, than one that says "Sea King" Infact, pretty much everything, from the powerhead gasket, on down was identical to the old Johny/Rudes. Oddly enough though, Gales didn't like detachable heads, whereas Johny/Rudes did, so the powerheads are totally different. Allthough, I believe you can mount a Johny/Rude powerhead on that sea king.
