Sea King (Is carb complete???)

I just got the 1951 5 hp sea king #15GG-9015a .Is there some thing missing? Do sea Kings Have chokes? Does anyone have pics or parts veiw. Thanks

That is a 51.It uses a variable venturi carb with a primer no choke.When you rotate the highspeed knob on front of carb all the way to the left there is a lever that pushes the float pin sticking out the top of carb down flooding the carb.Depress the pin momentarily and return to run position and crank.The three and 5 hp use the variable venturi carb.The 12 uses a more typical carb with a normal choke but choke is actuated with the same highspeed knob.

Probably the simplest carburetor made, at least since 1950. Hardly anything to it. If it is clean and the cork float isn't shot or the float valve worn out, it will run.

Thanks for the help, I'm new to antique outboards a have not seen one of these before. The threaded holes in the the front made it look like something was missing. the coils are cracked but seemed to hove good spark to the plugs. and fuel fills the bowl but wont run or hit. the hunt continues thanks again.

Yeah the carb is complete, my Gale has the same carb, I think the threaded holes on the sides of the inlet hole are for a screen that some models had.

The coils are probably shot, you can get new ones from NAPA as well as condensers and points.

You are wasting your time and beating a dead horse unless you replace those cracked coils. Those old coils are always cracked unless they have already been replaced. Been there, seen that, countless times.

napa huh. I knew they had Johnson part but i didn't know the had sea king. I will call tomorrow thanks

They won't have a listing for a Sea King But those for the 5.5 Evinrude/Johnson should work.Also some of the NAPA branches don't have a clue about their 600 page marine products catalog.You can also get the same parts right here at Iboats your gracious sponser of this wonderful forum.

Thanks for the heads up on iboats having those coils. I never thought they would carry parts for motors that old. Not only did they have them but they were 18.99 ea+ sh7.50 and napa was 27.49 so because I need 2 I saved 9.50. I need to get part number for the impeller because iboats only goes to 54. then I can make 1 order to save on shipping if I can match.

Also get the points and condenser set, it well only be about $10 and you might as well change those at the same time. The 15gg9015a is the same as the Gale 5d10, just looked it up in my service manual which I got for my 5d10. The lower unit is from the late 40's Johnson TN motors, iboats does not carry the impeller as far as I know but I have found it at another site, look in my post lower down for the site, I well try and look it up for you too.

I just looked it up the site is www.vintageoutboard.com and the impeller is part number 375688 they are $22.95. Also if you need diagrams or whatnot let me know and I can scan them from my book and email them to you if needed.

Save a ton on the impeller by buying one from iboats for the 5.5hp. It is .010" smaller bore. Just ream it out to fit the shaft.
