Sea King Spark plugs

I'm working on a 1962 5hp Sea King and found it has a bad spark plug. The plug is J4C and the local auto stores don't carry that. I replaced both plugs with J6C. It starts and runs much better but I wonder if that is a correct plug to use. What plug is a suitable replacement?
