I was given an old outboard, I believe it's of 60's vintage. The name is "Sea King" and it's 6hp. I don't see an identification plate nor can I find any additional information about the motor. The prior owner states it "ran" a couple of years ago.

Does anyone know who made or makes this outboard and what steps should I perform to bring it back to life after sitting for two years. Thanks

Re: Sea King

Welcome to Iboats, Check on the transom mount where you mount it on the boat. The plate on my 1963 5hp is rather small and hard to see. Should be a serial number and model number. Post both and one of the experts will find it. Good luck if it's like my 5HP there good old motors.
Ray

Only numbers I can find are on the transom mount near the tilt pin on both sides:

197532-2 on the port side
197032-1 on the starboard side

Re: Sea King

Twag, if it's a water cooled motor like mine it was more then likley a gail motor manfactured by the omc corp. Mine is a two cylinder 5hp, run it on 24:1 tcw-3 outboard motor oil, using regular unleaded gas 87 octane. Before you try and get a fire built in it change the water pump impeler, after setting for that long it has more then likley dried out and needs to be replaced. Parts are easely available for this motor at any napa store. Last and most important if you don't have a manuel get one, I got one for mine on iboats and it covers johnson and evinrude from 1956 to 1970. Not that costely and worth every penny.
Good luck and let us know how it runs. Mine runs great after setting for over 3 years.
Ray

Re: Sea King

Over the years Sea King engines have been made by several different makers.

I agree that yours was probably made by Gale, a division of OMC (JohnnyRudes) and is nearly identical to the JohnnyRudes of the period. It would be a twin cylinder, water cooled engine and look exactly like a JohnnyRude except for the paint.

Paul, or someone else, can probably give you more and better info. You need exact identification to know what Manual to get, what fuel mix to use, etc.

Good luck. :)

Re: Sea King

Thanks guys, this gives me a clue as how to proceed. If I could obtain a manual that would be great. Hope to get it running and checked out before the Midwestern cold sets in...Thanks again!
