Re: Sea King

probably less a timing thing and more of a low speed adjustment on the carb.

Re: Sea King

Thats the thing Fred, there is no low speed adjustment on the carb, its just a mixture knob and a throttle stop screw, why it needs a throttle stop, well.

Re: Sea King

The throttle stop screw on the side of the carburetor is the idle mixture screw. It affects the mixture by holding the throttle valve partly open without advancing the spark. If you don't believe it, try opening the carb throttle on one of your other motors, without advancing the spark. It will lean out, sneeze, and quit.

Thats one think I can do all day with my seagull, my anzani, and my J.A.P. seabee and they all have no way of advancing the spark when running.:D
The throttle stop screw is a throttle stop because it stops the throttle from dropping and will in no way change the fuel mixture. That's what you have a dirty great big mixture knob for, that is for changing the mixture, not the throttle stop screw and no I dont believe it.

I just hate it when I'm told what I can or can't do!
Now I'm going to lie down in a darkened room.

Re: Sea King

Run the seaking up again after looking at the timing still no good on tickover, but found it was missing on one plug when ticking over, so will have a good look at the points and coils, paint work is on its way just tank to do.

Have a good rest in your dark room? So don't believe me, I don't care. But I have the service manual and over 20 years full time experience on those motors as an OMC dealer mechanic...do you?

Here is what Gale Products has to say about the idle mixture adjustment in their service manual.

This is not a Sea Gull or Anzwhatever.

First off, you call this an Idle mixture screw and I said it has nothing to do with mixture, even your manual does not call it a mixture screw.

Second as you quoted I could not rev up one of my outboards without advancing the spark.
Well, what can i say, your post speaks for itself.
But unlike you I am not slagging off other peoples outboards.

Man, what happened to manners in the UK? Too bad I can't hurl a size 10 shoe across the big pond at your noggin. Hope you have fun burning it up.
