A CAMPAIGN to rename fish as "sea kittens" in order to improve their image has been ridiculed by the Federal Opposition.
Outspoken animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is using the "sea kitten" name as part of its push to restrict fishing.

"Nobody would hurt a sea kitten!" the group says on its website.

So am I hoping to go out and torture (C&R) some lake kittens this weekend????????????????????????????????????????????????

PETA is also going after a high school here in Spearfish, SD. That want the high school name to become the "spearfish sea kittens" The current name is the Spearfish Spartans.

Seriously, nothing better for them to do???

http://www.boston.com/news/odd/arti...spearfish_school_should_be_called_sea_kitten/

uh.....i dont understand......in english grammar....you cant say fish fish....or dog dog......for that fact.....you cant say pain pain in in the the .......

so they want the spear fish spartans new name to be spearfish sea kittens.....

now ....follow me on this one.......they want to change the name of fish to sea kittens....to do away with the killing of fish issue.....
but.....with proper grammer used.....the spearfish spartans new name would have to be ......spear sea kittens !

Me and my GF got a good laugh from this. She suggested that I find a big enough stuffed animal fish (sorry, 'sea kitten') to somehow stuff my cat in to, take a picture and send it to PETA. Could have my very own 'sea kitten', and it would be a nice 12lb'r!! Unfortunately if I tried this, I'd first see this...

I wouldn't waste too much time concerning myself over PETA. I suspect it's just a bunch of our younger population trying to mature.

That would be a VERY dangerous attitude to take.

Ignoring something does NOT make it go away, it makes it STRONGER.

Apathy has been the downfall of every civilized society, previous to this one.

Re: Sea Kittens

DJ Is right in so many ways it's scary.

We have minority groups wanting to push their agenda.

Lets examine a few that i would have thought 10-20 years ago has a snowballs chance in hell in getting the laws changed.

First comes to mind is the gay issue, 2 people of the same gender getting married lawfully, and having all the protections, 10-20 years ago who would have thought it was possible ???

One more; anti-hunting and anti-fishing. Slowly and surly our rights to hunt and fish on the open water is being attacked by groups that will not be happy till everyone eats tofu and nothing else.

Yep no fishing, no hunting, no eating hamburgers, no eating salads cause the plants feel pain.

Think it's funny, but i don't.

Now i am fully aware that the mods might jump on me and drop a piano on my head, cause this might be skirting the rules a bit.

But i never posted a opinion on the first issue.

The second issue is just boggles the mind.

Re: Sea Kittens

To me, the problem with PETA is not that they advocate humane treatment of animals - its that they don't know how to act sensibly.

For example, I like beef. I like hamburgers and steaks and roast beef . I also like most everything else you can do with beef. That said, I'd get cranky with a beef processor that didn't use a quick, humane method of killing a cow. I also don't eat veal because of what is done to a calf to produce the meat in the tender form in which it is eaten. I just think that stuffing a calf into a tiny box, so that it can't move very much, and purposely feeding it in a way that induces anemia, is both inhumane and gross.

So, give me a nice steak that comes from a well fed animal that has been slaughtered humanely and I'm happy. The rest I can live without.

Re: Sea Kittens

The problem as i see it is that they don't think you and me have a right to decide what WE want to do.

But they have a right to tell us what to do.

We don't have the right to fish, we don't have the right to hunt.

We don't have the right to read what books we want to.

We don't have the right to freedom.

Thats right freedom to choose, cause they are on a mission to save us from ourselves.

And g-d help you if you don't agree with them.

What would we have without freedom??

They want us to ignore them, and think they will go away, thats what they want.

They will get stronger who knows 5 years from now no more steak for you.

I have been, in the past a advocate for hunting and fishing and will continue to be one.

I want for my children what i had, freedom.

Fer cryin out loud, would you stop? They aren't making you do anything. They're expressing an opinion. It's a stupid one, and that judgment comes from probably one of the most liberal readers of this forum.

You don't see me whining about what idiots often do in the name of conservatism in here, even though I could. So why is it that you insist on making this an issue about the "loony left," and even tossing gay marriage into the mix? That kind of crap doesn't belong here. Most folks I know lean pretty hard toward the port side, and every one of them thinks Ingrid Newkirk (head of PETA) is a dope.

PETA does a lot of stuff grab people's attention, but in the long run they have no power at all. They're best ignored. Paying attention to them only gives them power--kind of like Ann Coulter.
