Any one ever attempted this on the particular Model and can One person do it? Any help, any suggestions, any step-by-step will help. Thanks.

Replacing a transom is a BIG project, especially if you have no experience. If the transom is bad the deck is probably rotten too. Make sure you inspect everything in the boat and decide what level of restoration you want to do.

There are a lot of posts on this subject and a lot of YouTube videos as well.

Watch them first and get a feel for what's involved.

Ohh, and with the right tools, you should be able to do yourself

Do a search here on the forum for Transom replacement. I'm certain you'll find more than you can wish for in details and "How To's" This IS the Worlds Boat Restoration University"!!!

This is an Aluminum Boat...Correct??

If so, here's a link to a SIMILAR boat that did a transom replacement.

Hello Bra2760, and welcome to the fun!

Please post some pics of your vessel, and we will be happy to help! If I can suggest, I would use Photobucket and simply cut-n-paste the photos in, they are big that way and we can provide more assistance.

One person can definitely do the transom change, I am going thru my transom change out right now on my Sea Nymph. I don't have the 195SS Model, but may of these are very similar.

If your transom is rotten, you need to check out your flooring and the dreaded foam that lies underneath! For me, all of mine was rotten, which has resulted in a complete gut job! Hopefully yours is not that bad, but be open to checking it all out.....the more information you have now, the better you will be in the long run!

Thanks,
Frey

Thanks. Boat is still in the Mine for Storage. Will take pictures. It's seems that when I checked the Baot at the end of the Season, the center where Motor is mounted was soft. mounting bolts just wants to keep tightening. I'm capable of doing this myself. Have some freinds to help. Lots of Rivet to grind or Drill just to get to Transom. Just researching what I'm getting into. Inherited Boat from Father, many, many trips to Northern Canada for Walleye with this boat. Still in Excellent condition. Except for soft transom.

Bra or bruh....lol, no offense please!

My transom was soft near the center and then spread downward. When I took it all apart, I found that the bottom of the transom had completely disintegrated into what I would call "wood pulp", and I actually dumped the pieces in my flower bed! I found that the water had penetrated the transom at the bottom motor mounts and where the PO simply screwed in a newer transducer with no sealant of any kind! The floor was rotten and the foam was soaked as well with a hundred pounds of water!

For mine I did have to drill out the splash well rivets and it came out, then remove the transom cap, and finally remove the inner transom skin. Of course the motor was removed and all bolts and drains. This was completed in 1 day.

As for the rest of the project, let's just say that I'm taking my time.....:faint2:

If I have to redo 200+ rivets. Where do, find the Rivet tool and rivets? No one in my area will do a riveted boat.

Ohh jeez I hope that transom cap didn't break being bent up! Those are seriously tough to come by and most of us have to fabricate our own if they're broken.

You don't have to take out 200 rivets to replace the transom in your SN. The outer skin that has all the solid rivets stays on there. Once the motor is off remove the splashwell and then all of the machine screws, splashwell drain tubes have to be ruined to get them out. Then the iner piece of aluminum will come off.

Bra,
I agree with Watermann, you don't need to remove the rivets in the transom itself, they don't hold in the wood core, its the screws/nuts/washers that hold it in. In order to remove the splashwell, you may have to drill out some rivets however....I know that I did for my splashwell removal. I recommend a small punch in the center of each rivet (just one whack is all it takes) to keep your drill bit from wandering. Then just drill out the head of the rivet, it is pretty quick so be ready, I know that I pressed too hard and went through mine a few times and drilled a much bigger hold than I needed to....

Keep us posted with your progress...

Ok. I'm reall having some difficulty with this. There are dozens of small regular rivets to come out. Under the splash rail, in the bilge, etc I do see six blind rivets on each side that looks like they need to be removed, towards the top front of splash well on the outside. Is this making any sence? Also a lot of other inside the boat. Am I correct?

I think you're wanting is assemble the splashwell rather than remove it. The motor has to come off. The end caps and then the transom cover that you bent up. It's the same as my SS's SW and all you have to do is drill out the blind on the gunnels, remove bolts on both sides inside the gunnels that hold onto brackets, the knee brace(s) might be bolted to the SW too. Remove the lower row of machine screws that go through the transom. No need to be frustrated, just sytematically remove what needs to be that's holding the SW in place.

That's all well and good, BUT..... There is NO possible way to get to the Nuts that are attached to the SS screws. I managed to remove some and then you hear the nuts falling into bottom. The splash well needs to be removed. If there are shortcuts, then I willing to go there. Motor is removed

That little false wall from the SW to the sole on the inside needs to be removed to gain access.

If you could post some pics of the splashwell close up enough so we can see the attachments better.
