I have an '89 14R which sounds like
what you describe. They're strong boats.
There's not much you can do to hurt them.

Re: sea nymph

My 1st boat was a 12' Sea Nymph aluminum cartoppable boat with a 7.5 hp Sea King (Monkey Wards) motor. Paid $150 for the boat without motor (used) in ~1987. Great little boat with good lines - good in rough water, as I proved a few times. A well-made aluminum boat as I remember. Wife, kid, and I spent a lot of time on the water in that seaworthy little boat, including at Lake Powell. Sold it to a friend who still has it when we upsized to a 1961 16' Texas Maid Fiesta.

Re: sea nymph

Ron, were you satisfied with a 7.5 hp on the sea nymph?.we have high wind here on the lake, was 7.5 strong enough for you?, P.S : Your Reinell sounds like a winner, I'm sure your 7.3 powerstroke don't have any problems pulling it

Re: sea nymph

It certainly didn't go real fast, but it's all that I could find at a reasonable price. I don't remember what the manufacturers plate had for a maximum size, but a 10 to 15 hp would have been better (faster or bigger is always better). We have a lot of wind on our western lakes and that little boat proved it's seaworthiness in big waves a few times when I ignored the signs of incoming bad weather. I remember the prop loosing it's grip on the water when we went over the crest of the waves in a windstorm on Powell. 3 of us in the boat with following waves. Wife and Son were queasy when we finally got to shore. In windy conditions, you wouldn't need the extra hp, because you want to keep the speed down anyway. The extra hp is nice when it's smooth water and you want to get somewhere soon.

The Reinell's a solid old boat that still needs plenty of work. It's deep enough that we only get wet when we want to. May sell it next year depending on how well we like the Bayliner. Wouldn't want to be without a running boat, so I have a spare in case one breaks down.

Re: sea nymph

I have a 1979 12' Sea Nymph 12K at my Summer Cabin and it's been a great boat. It goes fairly well with a 6hp Johnson, and it's pretty fun with a 9.8hp. On my next trip up there I'm going to see what it'll do with a Merc 20hp :D . It cuts through the waves nicely and is pretty tough to flip. The only issue I've ever had with it was when the transom bolts rusted through and leaked, but I changed them and it's been trouble free since.
Here are some pics of it with a 6hp this summer:
http://www.shareaproject.com/fullImages/1508.jpg
http://www.shareaproject.com/fullImages/1509.jpg
Eric

Re: sea nymph

Eric, you don't have enough stuff in that boat. We always went out with fishing gear, snacks for the munchkin, and an action packer with blankets and rain gear for when we got rained on. With wife and I and the kid and all of the gear, the boat was pretty full. If the water was warm (60 degrees), we had a boarding ladder and the kid's tube. I remember trolling for many hours while dragging the kid on a tube. If we didn't have all of that stuff, I'll bet the boat would have really moved with that 7.5 hp motor.

That's when I get out a 9.8hp instead of that 6hp. I usually just bring a rod and troll in front of the cabin though, it's the best fishing in the lake right there :D .
Eric
