Sea Ray SD 240 corroded hot water heater entry hose

My 2000 Sundancer 240 had a survey recently and it was discovered that the hot water hose that enters the heater box has a big section of corrosion on it and had separated from the heater itself. There was a slow leak into the bilge of hot water when the engine was running.

My question: will the whole heater need to be replaces, or can just that fixture where the heater hose enters the heater be repaired. I can't find any diagrams on-line showing it and my Clymer's manual is (not surprisingly) not detailed enough to show it.

Thanks in advance.

patrick; a mercruriser manual wouldnt show any thing either. these are after market add ons and not part of the power train.
with out a picture its hard to say but i'm guessing yes you would need to change the unit. most likely a one peice heater core or heat exchanger

Depends on the heater.

Take the hose off and look at the fitting under the hose. On most heaters, this is a standard pipe nipple or female hole in the heater.

as with most mechanical problems on a boat. it good practice to take a long look at the problem before jumping to conclusions about it.

I have the same problem on my boat plus the core was leaking into the hot water. I removed the heater from the circuit completely.

In order to get the old heater out of my boat, I need to pull the engine. I find as the systems in my boat fail, they get the old shoe maker's by-pass.

If you disturb the engine loop of the heater, be ready for possible challenges bleeding all the air out.
