My new boat, Regal 2000 20' open bow Volvo 5.7 GiSX, will be ariving soon. This is my first boat in 10 yrs and my first new boat ever. What sort of things do I need to look for when the Dealer and I take it out for the predelivery sea trial?

Everything!

Push, pull, twist, flip, turn on, run, turn off everything that you can. If it is not supposed to move, shake, rattle, or move. Try it. Make sure it stays put.

Congrats on the new boat.

Re: Sea trial

I did my sea trial with the boat loaded to max capacity...This can make a big difference and most will use their boat towards this capacity limit. Don't forget to pull the plug if you take it out of the water to make sure the bilge is dry.

Re: Sea trial

Can I bring it up to full RPMs to see what the top speed is? If so how long should I keep it there?

NO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE TESTING.

Read the owners manual, it will be very specific about the proper break-in procedure for your engine and drive.

This sounds to dumb to worry about. However, at the end of your sea trial be sure to open the motor hatch a check the bilge carefully for any fluids. Dumb is rule one with boats, even new boats!
