Re: seacast for transom replacement?

theres a thread in this topic that is tracking the durability of this product. search for seacast and you will fing lots of stuff on it. as far as measuing goes, get the surface area off the back and times it by the thickness. that will give you cubic inches. then convert to cubic feet or gallons as needed

Re: seacast for transom replacement?

I used it about two months ago on my 19-6 aquasport and it worked out great so far. A little patience getting the wood out and making sure the skins are clean. Don't listen to anyone who says you can't get the skins clean enough to get it to stick cause I was able to scrape all the wood off the sides and sand them till they looked new. Most of my wood was not rotten just wet and the chainsaw method worked great. Any questions just ask I would be glad to help.

John,
I'm getting ready to start restoration on a 1974 Aquasport 19-6. I would love to see some pics of your boat and could use any insights you might have (my boat needs a new deck and transom work)

Thanks!

Just make sure that you work from the inside out. Leave the outer shell of the transom in tact. Grind the inner fiberglass down, get out the old wood core and then grind down the inner works of the transom shell. An air chisel works good on stuborn cores.

Re: seacast for transom replacement?

I still have the 20 inch transom and I used 2.5 5gallon buckets.

The chainsaw works great I used a 20 inch bar. You can cut through if you are not careful but if you use a sharp chain you will feel the air space between the wood and hull. After you feel it the rest is cake, just time consuming.

I scraped the skins with a piece of steel bar stock bent at a 45 and sharpened to a razor edge. worked great. Then sanded the skins with a 1by 3 with a belt sanding belt stapled to thebottem and up the sides to work like a sanding block with a 4 foot handle. Flushed it with acetone right before I poured. I also filled in the center drain as the motor blockes it anyway.

I will try to post pics for you asap

No I did not put back the center drain. I did put the drain tubes in the other two. I have the tool and it really works great

My boat is a 1973 19-6

It might be for sale this summer due to the fact that I picked up a 1983 200ccp deeper v and better ride. It needs a restoration though

I will try to post pics today
