Seafoam. Any Good?

Hi guys i've been reading through other articles and was just wondering if this stuff is worth using.
I have a 1980ish 85hp johno would it make much of a difference?

Are you trying to start a fight? d This stuff is like a mechanic in a can. For two-strokes (especially older ones) this product is a great decarb agent and it works very well at keeping fuel systems clean when used regularly. No -- I don't work for the company. I've used it for years in every engine I own. Of course if your engine has been neglected, nothing you pour through it can fix that neglect.

Good stuff i have used it i several motors u will know i if it works u can see a good amount of smoke come out for a few min

I've just bought a boat and have been reading up on maintenence hence the question. Im from melbourne australia where abouts around here can you get it?

I use my motors just to get in and out of the harbor, so they never get a chance to burn out the gunk. I Seafoam my motors
every year.
But if you have a gunky motor and follow the Seafoam instructions, you will generate a lot of smoke. I use my household 3' fan and point it right at the motor to dilute the smoke.

Im in Ottawa as well.. They sell that at NAPA auto parts. One on Belfast across from Tim Hortons.

It ain't some miracle stuff, as any boat dealer with any type of "Engine Tune", or similar DeCarb is the same thing...its mostly Naphtha with some oil.. If you can get Chevron Techron CONCENTRATE, not the injection cleaner mixed, will work just fine too.

My question is using it as a preventative measure. Most everything I read is how to decarb once your motor gets gunked up. If you use this stuff mixed in your gas all the time will it prevent the carbon from building up in the first place? Also, does it effect any of the lubricating properties of the oil whether its premix, injected etc...?

SeaFoam has a lubricant in it and its primary use is in the fuel to keep fuel systems from getting gunked up in the first place. It can be used in two and four stroke engines. Add it regularly to the fuel as a preventive measure. It also stabilizes the fuel. It is also available in spray form -- it's called DeepCreep. On FI engines it is especially helpful in keeping injectors clean.

Scaaty -- the problem with questions like this one (the original post) is that they invariably become a "Chevy-Ford debate". I don't think Sublimes question was at all out of line and indeed was quite pertinent to this discussion. I see his question being no different than your introduction of Techron into the discussion. There are many decarb agents (including water) on the market. The posters question pertained to SeaFoam and later, where it could be obtained.

I bought a can at a Menards, here in the mid- west , not sure if there is any Down Under . I never used any of this before either, i plan on using it as a preventive type use and use it mixed in the tank.

Sorry, can't agree...asking a question on ANOTHER posters question gets things all out of wack...do what ya want, I'll take my advise elsewhere...sorry I even get involved it these questions anyway....I'll slowly back away..(besides, the original question is in the wrong forum, and DeCarb is pretty well covered in the FAQ's too .

You won't buy it here in Oz...but you can make your own and it will clean out all the crap from the carby jets...so go to your local outdoor shop and buy a litre of shelite...then to an electronic supplies shop and buy a litre of Isopropyl alcohol..just mix 500ml of shelite with 300ml cheap 2 stroke oil and 200ml of isopropyl alcohol...that will make you up a litre...stick it all into a 25lt tank of your normal boat fuel...if your motor is 2 stroke you can leave out the 300ml of cheap 2 stroke oil.

I was a non-believer at first but on my 4 year old 2 cycle, that didn't run as smoothly as I wanted, I tried it after listening to the believers on here for a couple of months. I now run it in every tank of gas.

On my farm equipment, I have a '91 460 Ford 1 ton truck that now runs like a top and easily passes annual emissions inspections.

Also in several diesel tractors, some dating back to '63. Had one that I thought was done for; needed a ring job but after 6 mos of using it in the diesel and once in the oil right before the oil change, it quit burning oil, oil pressure holds real good, and it runs like a top with very little of the normal diesel smoke.

I usually put Marvel Mystery Oil in my diesel to keep things clean and lubed, but after putting this in my engines, It definitely makes a difference. So now I have to decide whether or not to keep the MMO and this or just use this.

Lawnmowers, chain saws, weed eaters.....have rejuvenated all of them with it.

Do I think it works? Naw.....

I buy it at NAPA, AutoZone, and other automotive and farm after market retail stores. Do other things work better? Dunno. Why quit a winner d . NAPA gives me a 10% discount on case lots (12 per case).

I use seafoam regularly, most auto parts stores cary it, what can I say that hasn't allready been said, the stuff works but some say it does strang things to spark plugs.
