I want to add a bottle of seafoam through a vacum hose to sit for a day or 2 in a 1995 5.7 mercrusier. What hose should I remove to drop into the can to suck into the engine?

to add it thru a hose that dosent exist is tough.plus if you did on a running engine it would just burn it .
why not just add it to the fuel tank or add it to a remote outboard type and introduce it that way.

SeafoamFAQ said:
In some cases, in gas engines where carbon deposit build-up is severe, it requires a more aggressive application of Sea Foam?. By directly pouring Sea Foam? into the throat of the carburetor, into the main manifold vacuum line that serves all cylinders, stubborn carbon and varnish deposits are soaked in pure Sea Foam?, and are more effectively removed from cylinders, valves, pistons and rings. WARNING - This induction application method requires extra care, and if performed improperly, can cause significant damage to your engine, which is why we recommend that you have a professional mechanic perform this procedure for you or use the Sea Foam? Spray method that is described in another section on this web site.

I'm also going to SeaFoam my engine before doing a tune-up. His question is what hose is the main manifold vacuum line. I have my assumption of what line it is, but would also like some expert confirmation.

Re: Seafoam by induction

the method by which you describe is more than likely for an automotive gasoline engine - some marine efi engines do have a vaccuum line going to the base of the thottle body assy

some of the older mercruiser models had a tiny line for a vaccuum guage on the dash but you would have to wait a while for it to pull the entire contents of a can of seafoam into it

if anybody is trying to "decarbon" thier mercruiser marine engine my suggestion is to use mercury/quicksilver power tune spray - sprayed directly into the carb while the engine is running, let sit for 24 hours, then run the engine under a load - repeat if neccessary

I have a holly 4bbl and I have a plugged vac line that I use. What ever you use just make sure it has a passage to all your cylinders, or just pour little by little in your carb, suck or pour enough that your engine is about to stall but don't let it stall....you will blow white smoke and make the neighbors mad! Use the whole can shut the motor down.

I let it sit for about 30 min and start the engine and run it at about 1,000 rpm you will still blow white smoke until it burns off and you will make your neighbors mad again. You will notice a smoother running engine, oh then change or clean your spark plugs i guess you dont have to thats just a ME thing, and add a can to your fuel tank. I also use the stuff to fog my engine in the fall.

there also is a cheaper but stronger version of sea foam called chemtrol $3.00 you can get at auto zone or wal-mart which has the same chemicals just more potent, "I researched it"

GM dealers do a simular thing with there own version of the chemical, and they call it a fuel system cleaning, $90.00

Re: Seafoam by induction

the old standby to cleaning carbon is a 8 oz bottle of water slowly poured down the carb. will vaporize carbon deposits and it goes out the exaust.clean, free, no added chemicals.

I use Sea foam all the time just put it in your gas tank. If you run it thru your vac line or direct and you have alot of gum build up, it will smoke like crazy. I use it in my cars and it produces a thick cloud of white smoke. Good product tho!;)
