Found Seafoam at Walmart today..$7.36..pint..didn't see Deep Creep though.
I also (after doing the due diligence on whats in it) make my own.
I mix one 12 oz "Heet"..(RED Iso-Heet, not the yellow bottle, which is not to be used in 2 strokes). Cheap, way under a dollar easy
One quart "Painters Naptha"..100%..Home Depot...$6
And good old Marvel Mystery at a quart for what $5 or less?
Figure $12 a gallon plus (as compared Seafoam from WM at $30 a gallon)
And Seafoam at one pint treating 8 to 25 gallons at $7.50, I get 24 to 100 gallons treated at a little over $12.
Thoughts welcome....and use the mix in all my two stroke (many) motors

Maybe, if you would break down the formula a little, I could better understand your mix. I do use Marvel Mystery oil and SeaFoam. Why the need for naptha, doesn't marvel already have naptha? I understand the alcohol component if need, but do the other products Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam already contain the same.
You say you treat: { And Seafoam at one pint treating 8 to 25 gallons at $7.50, I get 24 to 100 gallons treated at a little over $12.} That is a pretty large spread, 24-100 gallons. Help me out here please.

I'd patent/bottle the mix and sell it as Salty Foam...I'd buy it.

Wow -- its only $4.35 at my local farm store. Haven't seen it at Wally World but then I haven't look for it either.

The last I bought from a friend, who is wholesale/resaler was $5.00. He says the price has really gone up since it has been disovered by the boating world.

On the spread, thats what Seafoam says on the can. 8-25. From 16OZ. So heavy would be 2oz gallon. I use 1 1/2 oz Gal.

Heres the MSDS sheet on Seafoam
http://www.seafoamsales.com/pdf/MSDS_SFTT_US.pdf
That simply says whats in seafoam. Also do a search Seafoam..lots of interestting posts on it.
So at 40-60% oil, 25-35% Naptha, and ISP at 10-20%.
Well, I figure a 16oz each Nap and MM, 12 Red HEET. Good enough. Little heavy on the Nap, but thats what has to do the work under pressure and combustion heat. Nap by itself does nothing on carbon...
I didn't think much of seafoam until I did a overnight Deep Creep in a a 125 OB. Went from a 3300RPM slow still on plane, down to 2700RPM.

I looked at MSDS on Marvel Mystry Oil: It contains the following:
NAPHTHENIC HYDRCARBONS: 70-80%
MINERAL SPIRITS: (oil by product) 20-30%
CHLORINATED HYDRONCARBONS: 0-1 %
While SeaFoam contains per MSDS,Pale Oil: (maybe mineral oil) 40-60%
Naphtha: 25-35%
IPA (ISP) 10-20%
I don't see the same mix by any stretch of the imagation. I think you would be better off just using plain Marvel Mystery oil as w/your formula, you add Marvel Mystery oil to your on NAPHTHA, in my mind that makes up about 90-95% of NAPHTHA to a little bit of alcohol.
I personally add 1 qt of Marvel Mystery oil to 100 gallons of gas and have never had a problem.
If you remember back when Mercury was making TCW2, when you open the container it smelled like BLEACH, that is you CHLORINATED HYDROCARBONS.
I think your mix will definately clean the engine, just don't know what all the NAPHTHA does to schavanging oil from the bearing etc. All the above is just my opinion for what it is worth.

Re: Seafoam is at Walmart, and info homemade

Theres SO much oil going through at 50-1, at an OUNCE+ plus per gallon..even straight Nap.....that what ya say means little...in the big picture...
One oz Nap?...to 128 OZ oil mixed gallons?...doubt that makes any diff what so ever.
And remember its mixed with oil, (even MMO..which is mostly NAP to I guess).....splitting hairs here. I just got my 150hp (4 stroke) Sportbike out from under the cover today. 22,000, just bought it...(own 8 bikes)
NEVER seen nothing but Reg Gas.
My home brew "Salty Mix"..(nice anology!) was tossed in with 3 gallons gas..2 OZ gallon
Ran it a bunch of miles today....the diff is AMAZING! Cleaned up the idle toooo SMOOTH! Had to crank it down a touch.
On boats..(2 Cycle)...oil put in the "mix sits on the bottom"..stirred, "not shaken"..(little James Bond there!)..has it mixed, and no seperation whatsoever.
All I can come up with is, like I said...the Nap, under heat and combustion, is what does the trick...
Thoughts welcome...

Re: Seafoam is at Walmart, and info homemade

Good timing on this subject. Have been using sea foam for a few years now only because lots of people on this site recommend it. Used it 1 oz. per gal. However, in my position, I quit using it as I noticed the price had gone up considerably.
While visiting our YAMAHA guru, friend bought 4 gals. of a product called YAMAHLUBE at 32 or 34 $s per gallon. It was for resale at a place called pirates cove that has nothing but big, multi diesel HATTERIS type fishing boats. Said the capts insisted on the product, dont know what they used it for, but they were not paying for it. I figured it is a YAMAHA branded sea foam product. Always liked mixing volatal products since I was a kid, ( didnt we all? ) so I will sure try your formula. What is red HEET? Not familar with the product.
Doing some quick math, looks like the YAMALUBE is not that expensive compaired SEA FOAM today.
Supposed to be close to 80 today, no wind, clouds burning off. Think I will take the wife to the beach and drink some beer! All of you have a happy easter and stay warm, Your boating time is comming real soon. regards FRED

Yamalube is an oil that Yamaha produces for it's motors. It comes in many different varieties that I know of. They make a 2-s product for two-stroke motors and a 4-s for four strokers. Not sure what else they make but I do know that the two stroke oil is pricey but very, very good oil.

Re: Seafoam is at Walmart, and info homemade

. What is red HEET? Not familiar with the product.
HEET comes in a yellow bottle, and a red bottle "ISO HEET". Yellow bottle says right on it to not use in 2 cycle motors. Why?...beats the crap out of me.
That said, and on MMO and SF..hmmm...did the MSDS on all, and seems Nap in the "stuff" that does the work.
I took 2 clear glasses with SF and my "Mix" . Dropped in some 2C oil. Waited an hour.
Sat on the bottom until stirred. After that, never separated.
And a side note hear of "washing bearings" mentioned....it don't "wash"..(pun intended).
The Nap mixes with the gas/oil mix. On a 2 cycle run at 50-1, figure 14oz touch heavy, 13oz normal if ya do a lot of non WOT, and adding an oz of MMO, SF, or my "mix"....will drop it a very little touch.
BUT....you have added (in all)...MORE OIL. Like somewhere in the range of (figure 30%)...adding TCW at normal 50-1..is what? 14oz to 128oz more like 10%.
Anyway..the more I look at this, and the MSDS MMO..(I have used it many years too...big boat 350 GM 4S.. 90 gallon tank gets off season, heavy mix that, and Stabil, and MDR WaterZorb..(da best).. ), coming to the stupid conclusion that all ya need is MMO, at $5 a quart .
Starting to get the "feel"...as MMO been around for decades....that the rest are just "copycatting" what worked on good combustion "heat" required..chamber/rings carbon cleaning.
Like that new "Lucas..IT WORKS"...BS...more copycat "snake oil".
It works alright....if ya be on the right end of the "dollar"...MSDS some of their "snake oil".
Nuff said...think I need to do a spray bottle with MMO, do a "Deep Creep"..stuff some in one of my many 2 strokes OB's, and one of the 3 Harleys....see if I can find a "diff"...
Thoughts welcome:D
