SeaFoam Question

I bought some seafoam the kind you mix with your gas/oil, they did not have the spay can type ( is the spray can the deep creep i've read about here?)

I put 5 Oz in in about 4-5 gallons of gas/oil mixture.

It ran good for a 10 minutes, but now it's all sputtering and almost dies if I'm not running full throttle. It Revs and slows then revs and slows at full throttle, it will no longer idle.

All the spark from the plugs look good...Did I use too much Seafoam? Will that cause what I explained above?

Carl, yes, Deepcreep is the spray version. I mix 1 can seafoam to a gallon of premix and run directly through carb and motor. I run this mixture for about 15 minutes and then switch back to fuelmix only. I run motor at WOT for a bit and then repeat the process. I have a seperate NEW plastic tank and new fuel hoses for the seafoam mixture. My thinking was not to dislodge any crud in the original fuel tank and lines that might end up in the carb ,clogging the jets, passages etc.
Are you running on the boat or in a large barrel? If you're in a barrel,you shouldn't be running at WOT anyway, on the boat at the lake is the place for that. It's too easy for the motor to ingest exhaust fumes in the barrel.

I read the Decarb FAQ. But it didn't say if using the seafoam would cause it not to idle/run rough.

I only used 5 Oz in about 5 gallaons of gas.

Tho it may be the new surface gap plugs I installed at the same time. Going to try conventional plugs after work today.

It's not the Seafoam mixed in that proportion that's causing the problem.....Try the new plugs as surface gap plugs foul much easier...

I had the same problem 3 weeks ago, with my "new to me" boat (1964: 15 foot cruiser w/ a Evinrude 40HP Lark VI). The Sea Foam causes a lot of "gunk" to come loose both from the tank and the motor, as well as the fuel line. It then runs into the carb.

I had to disassemble the carb, and clean it in solvent. In fact when spraying it off with compressed air, a bb sized ball of "crud" came flying out of the lower intake outlet of the carburetor float bowl... Thus the reason for the cutting out and horrible running. MY ADVICE- if you use sea-foam on a "new to you" motor/fuel tank....clean the CARB afterwards.!!

Side Note: Replace the old metal tank if you have one...or have it professionally cleaned and treated for the scale and stuff in there or you will be using the forum an awful lot to diagnose the same base problem.

After "sea foaming", cleaning the carb, new fuel filter, I put in a new Moeller 18 gallon tank....it has been smooth running ever since...whereas the prior 2 months was sheer frustration...good luck...

Fuel Tank,Hose, connectors, bulb pump etc are all brand new.

The boat did not have that stuff when I bought it. So it can't be anything on that end. No gunk coming from there at least.

Maybe the seafoam loosened up junk already in the carbs?

I'm going to try the other plugs then go from there.

That is what is does loosen up gunk and burn carbon. You have the wrong mix goin on. Don t worry this stuff will not hurt your engine.

The can says 1 Oz to a Gallon. But I gues that is more preventive maint. mix than for a decarb.

If I ever get the engine to a pioint where I think it's running right, I'll try the decarb mix. 16 oz to 1 Ga.
