I just bought a 2000 150hp fichts ram its on a 2000 22 foot lowe deck boat,it has a 19 pitch prop.turns 4000 rpms wot according to the on board tach, speed o meter reads 40mph.I have been told it should turn 5500 rpms at wot,I will use this boat to ski behind and fish,I will have 4 adults in it most of the time, I would like to increase the mph but still need to pull up skiers. How would you suggest I prop this? The previous owner said he ran 91 octane gas,is this recommended? Should I replace the water pump and impeller? It was not replaced last season. Are the dealers still installing the injector update,I have not checked my yet? Any other regular maintainece required? Do you know of a good web site to get a service manual for this unit? Sorry for all the ? but what I have read you know these fichts engines. Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance..

That rpm with the 19" prop is way too low. Have a QUALIFIED tech check it over completely, especially for detonation damage on the pistons and for possible heavy carbon buildup. The injector retainer kit may still be available if needed, again a good tech will know by seeing the motor. This is not the same kind of kit that the 99-2000 200-225hp needed.

You will probably need a 15" prop for best results on your rig.You may even need a 13" if you load up with 10 or 12 people, full fuel, and a lot of ice and beverages. You need that motor to turn close to 5500, or even a bit more, to make it perform correctly.

Decarbon the motor, use Champion XC12PEP plugs gapped at .028", and indexed per the service manual. See a dealer and order the manual, and a supplement if needed, depending on your model number.

The motor has an exhaust pressure sensor on the lower starboard side that is probably plugged up, Replace it, sometimes it jams with carbon.

A tech can put a laptop connected to the motor and print you out all the running rpms and the motors history and any error codes.

Good luck and enjoy it.

A QUALIFIED tech will know what to look for, damage and eroded areas of the piston. Detonation is caused by poor quality fuel, lean mixtures, or overloading the engine such as over-propping.

The service manual supplement is only needed for certain model numbers. Post your complete number and I can find out which manual(s) you will need.
