Hey I was working on this 1973 seaking 9.6 outboard for a guy. I had to tear this thing down, I mean all the way down!! Anyways I got it running and it run's great. When I broke down the water pump I noticed that this water pump did not have any gasket's inside the water pump housing at all. Correct me if I am wrong but there should be 2 gaskets there (at least that is how I seen it). I assumed that there were 2 gaskets that went there, so what I did is I made 2 gaskets (they are cut right on the money) and the impeller is still good so I put it back together. Took it out and it got hot and I noticed it was not pumping water. So I tore it down and I put the lower unit in the tank and used a drill to spin the water pump. It pumped water so I took the tube out and place that in the water pump housing and it would pump water up the tube but it was very weak. So before I get this guy to buy a new water pump kit I starting to second guess myself and wondering if this motor does not have water pump gaskets? Maybe the housing is self sealing or something? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rob
