Re: seal help

The bell-housing gasket should be put on dry. Putting any sealer on it may allow it to slide when the pressure is put on it....

I wouldn't worry about that... I've had my drive off and back on again about 20 times. 3 times in one week once...
You ain't gonna break it!

Re: seal help

Did you check your drive alignment? It can be difficult to get off and put back on if it is out of alignment. Also, if you have grease on the drive shaft where the two O-rings are (just need a slight bit of oil smeared on there) it can cause issues on reassembly. I also put 2-4-c on the barrel of the drive before install. I glue the large rubber O-ring in with bellows adhesive, keep the water passage O-ring in with a glob of grease in the recess.
If your drive gasket (the paper one) has been "glued on" inappropriately in the past, it can also make it hard to get off.

Re: seal help

That's too bad...:grumpy: Less than 50 bucks on Amazon or Ebay.... and well worth it. If indeed your problem is because of poor alignment, then you could be looking at spending alot more when your coupling goes. Alignment needs to be checked each time you pull the drive.

Here's a video of me removing my drive. If yours doesn't come off this easy, there is something wrong. Like the man said, get yourself an alignment bar, or you'll be paying a lot more to fix the damage caused by a mis-aligned engine.....

Removing Alpha drive

Oh dear.... Is there somewhere I can hide from that question??? Please.....

OK... By the book... A gasket should be changed every time parts are separated.

Now, (I'm not saying this is what I do ;)) if the gasket is in good condition there is a possibility that it will 'go around again'. If the parts are not subject to excess stress during normal use, or the gasket hasn't been danaged in the removal process, then a user may reassemble the parts without the required new gaskets.... If the user does this, it is his own assessment and risk....

Main overriding rule.... IF IN DOUBT, REPLACE ALL GASKETS ON DISASSEMBLY....

Could be an out of adjustment lower shift cable, or shutters rattling...
