I have a 1972 Johnson metal tank with the fuel guage on it. It was leaking at the guage gasket. I removed the old gasket with a Dremel wire brush and now replacing it with one I cut out. I see Pematex sealants come in many colors. Which one do I need for a sealant on the gas tank?

Permatex makes one that works for that purpose. "Permashield fuel resistant gasket dressing" is it's name.

Mine was blue and non hardening. I used it on some fuel sender gaskets, and it worked well.

The new brown rubber factory gaskets do not need a sealer.------You have replaced the 3 o-rings in the outlet housing ??

Not for sure where the 3 O-Rings in the Outlet housing are located. I replaced the end connections on both ends of the fuel line and installed a gas filter since the metal tank could have some contamination. lt looks good. No rust.

Those 2 wee pins are valves.-----When hose is attached to the tank they open.-----One lets gas out.----One lets air in.-----There are 2 o-rings inside the housing and 1 o-ring where a pin comes through .----Simple to maintain.----I used to do that for folks at a dealer when I worked for $1.50 / HR.-----Now many shops charge $2.00 / minute !

I know the gas fitting you refer. How do you get the fitting apart? Where do you find the o-rings? For some reason the right side does not " seat" up next to the housing .
