What do people here prefer to use as a sealant between the waterpump housing and the base plate?

I use regular old gasket sealer with the brush in the can from NAPA(Not copper based)....I'm sure OEM would be best, though...

Re: Sealant for waterpump?

Guess I haven't been paying attention. Do not recall ever sealing the waterpump housing other than what seals are provided i.e. orings or the sort. Been awhile since I changed one but I certainly don't remember any glue.

See, one problem with using glue is that it's wet all the time so it's hard to keep a bond, and the housing of the water pump (Merc) is made of fiberglas reinforced plastic so it has some wiggle to it (has the capability) and all.

Oh well. Maybe I need to dive into my service manual again and look at this. Think I will.

Be right back.

Yep memory good. No glue on Mercs; seals in several places, but no glue.

Mark

Great that's what I use. Good enough I guess.
