Sealant on welch plugs

Im getting ready to rebuild the carb, on my 1969 25 hp Johnson. I want to make sure the low speed jet holes are clean, Looks like I'll have to remove the welch plug to get in there. The rebuild kit I got has the new welch plugs in it. My question is, should i put some kind of sealant around the new plug before I press it in? Or should I just press them in and use some fingernail polish to cover the outer edges of the plugs, after installed?

Seal the welsh plug after it has been installed. There is a product called gasiola that works and can be found at most auto parts store.

Only need to seal them if you have a leak when done. You set the plug in, set a small ball peen round end on the plug and tap it with another hammer. This expands the plug. They normally self seal.

The proper size punch to seat the plug is the important thing. The closer the punch size is to the plug, the better.

Bottom line is whatever tool you use, flatten the plug. Don't go dishing it beyond flat, as that will loosen it up again. Never have heard of using fingernail polish, but that is a great idea. Apply it after the plug is seated.

The exception to applying any kind of sealer to a carburetor core plug is NEVER apply any sealer to a core plug that is installed internally.

I mix a little epoxy cement and seal over the top - works great.
