Sealant, When Changing Impeller

I am changing the impeller on my evinrude big twin (40 hp). Is it recommended to use a sealant when reassembling the housing and plate. it looks like there may have been a very thin layer of some type of sealant. If so what is recommended ?

Sealer 1000 was the original. However, most any gasket sealant such as Permatex Aviation will work. It needs to be air tight but doesn't much matter how you accomplish it.
