I am in the process of redoing a 68 Chrylsler Del Ray, all aluminum, no stringers. I am removing the entire interior including foam. I plan on using Gluvit on the boat, but want to know if it would be best to use it on the outside of the hull, or if I could use it inside. If I used it inside, how would it react with the epoxy I use to hold the foam, or will there be a reaction. I would rather use it on the inside of the hull, and then just do outer seams if possible.

Re: Sealant

Gluvit is just thickened epoxy, if I remember correctly. It should not react to anything, after it is cured. I presume you are using it to seal the leaks in the aluminum. I do not know how effective this will be since the aluminum will flex as you use the boat.

Re: Sealant

What other recomendations do you have? The only leak in the boat is small, it is on the bottom of the boat, not a through and through leak. More than anything I just wanted to seal the bottom just in case before putting the foam back in.

Also, I read in another thread were a guy was considering coating his transom ply with Gluvit. Will this work, I have little fiberglass experience so something like that would be a tremendous help if it would be effective. Thanks

Re: Sealant

Thanks for the link Gunner. I had read that about the Gluvit. It says it can be used on the entire hull as well as can be used on wood. I suppose I will just apply it to the outside as need and only put the foam epoxy down on the inside.

What about the transom board, any thoughts on using it there?
