I am taking the floor out of my 16 foot aluminum Starcraft and using gluvit on all the seams and rivets. However, i need to replace a few rivets and am unsure what rivets i need and what size and what i need to do it?
Thanks Mark

:welcome: to the Starmada Mark, we will need to see some pictures of what your working on ;) What type of rivets you need will depend on where they are and what they are doing. For anything none structual you can use closed end blind pop rivets, if it is structual solid Braiser head bucked rivets are recommended. Both will be in 3/16"dia and assorted lengths depending on how many layers of aluminum you are securing.

What model of 16' SC do you have? You know there's a small price of admission here... pics! :joyous:

Just a few things needed to be able to set, buck and seal up solid rivets.

Air Hammer............................ 3/16" brazier head rivet set ......................... Rivet bucking bar

3M 5200 is used to make sure there's a 100% seal on the replacement solid rivets.

Since you're doing a full on gut and decking replacement job on your SC you'll be best served investing in a pneumatic blind rivet gun too. For attaching the decking and side panels (if you have them on your model) you'll need large flange blind rivets to do the attachment job right.

Rivetsonline is a good place to pick up solid rivets and the blind rivets too while you're there, the shipping is a bit high so it's good to make a larger order. SO what you'll need like Dozer said above is to know how many layers of AL you'll be securing. Normally it's bottom and ribs so that's 2 layers, you'll need 3/16" dia, 3/8" length and 2117T alloy. Large flange blinds for the decking, the length will depend on the thickness of your replacement material.

Hope all this helps, I know guessing really sucks. ;)

Many of us have gone through this route. Scroll through my thread and somewhere in there I hit both solid rivets and even used pop rivets to fix some leaks through hull.

All depends if its structural or not where I used the rivets. If I get time to find the pages ill come back and put them in.

And pics are always good for us hanging around to see new resto's!

I will post pics later this evening when I get home. It's not a complete rebuild as 3 years ago I redone all the wood floors and carpeted them and added new flotation. However, I didn't seal the boat with gluvit and it leaks some now. So this time I'm just taking everything apart them putting it back together. I just need some help finding the right closed end blind rivets I know I want 3/16 diameter and dome head, but what grip range and what type of metal? Here is the list of the website I'm looking at https://www.boltdepot.com/Blind_riv...tainless_steel_-_Stainless_steel_mandrel.aspx

I have 1978 16ft Starcraft Kingfisher. Ive had it for about 7 years now. When i first got it the original floor was still in it and very waterlogged. I also took out the side console and converted it to tiller steer, which i love because its just a fishing boat. In the picture the boat has a mean mud line on it from cat fishing the James every week. I am thinking about painting the inside and outside of the boat and extending the front casting deck.

When you get everything tore down and locate the leaks then some more accurate recommendations for repair can be made. You'll also want to pick up some Gluvit epoxy for the seams.
