I need to replace the old trim tabs on my boat, that screwed to the bottom edge of the transom. The new tab screws do not align with the old ones, so what is the best way to seal the unused holes?

Re: sealing old transom screw holes

Rebars1,

Multiple methods have been listed in these forums, from drilling the holes with 1/4 bit's and epoxying in some dowels, to filling them with 3m 5200.

I would think the issue will be, how close are the holes to the new ones, are they "soft" (did water get into them). Will they create a problem as far as holding strength if they are close to the others.

My two cents is to make sure the holes are dry and fill them with epoxy with a structural filler. Let them cure completely and drill your new holes. Seal the new screws with 3M 5200.

Peace.

Ed.
