have you ever shipped anything over there from the usa or canada?.....i wonder what it costs

I'm sure it isn't cheap,..But I don't think it's to bad either,...I work for a freight company and we do transport stuff worldwide, Though I don't know what it costs,..

If one were to do it you would want to use a reputable freight broker or carrier,...I work for UPS Freight and know that we could make it happen maybe start here for a quote http://www.ups.com/worldship/

If the proper paperwork isn't in place getting anything through customs is a pain in the you know what,...

Guys,

I'm back in the game! the engine has been dropped off to be machined, and will be ready for collection on friday afternoon. Terry is boring oversize for the +030" pistons, fitting the psitons to the rods, polishing the crank and fitting the cam bearings, and i will do the rest.

i also scored big today - a pair of heads that have been refurbed but never fitted for ?250.:) i was about to cough up ?560 for a refurbished pair so this is GOOD news! the guy who rebuilt them rebuilds porsche engines, so i'm pretty stoked about that. he did recommend fitting arp head studs as a precaution, so i will be taking his advice on that one!

the plan is to get the engine cleaned and painted on friday afternoon, rebuilt on saturday and fitted on sunday. i think the only things i need to order are the exhaust riser gaskets, a new thermostat housing to water pump pipe as the wire insert is collapsing, and the head studs.

so you know where i'm heading, here is a picture of the boat (with the engine cover off) when she was on the water before dying....:(

so after the engine was sent for machining, things went from bad to worse. when it was bored +030, the cylinder was so thin from corrosion, it broke though, so we bit the bullet and bought a new engine.

oops' please do say "i told you", ven though you did!

i ordered a brand new vortec replacement engine, which arrived today, having ordered it yesterday morning, pretty good service i say! also gets us a more powerful smoother engine that'll be good for another 20 years

including a trial fit to check alignment, plus sorting out longer studs for the carb (with spacer to suit the vortec manifold), and a variety of other fastners to suit the mix of metric and imperial, i got all the ancillaries fitted, less the wiring, carb and exhaust manifolds. i can't fit the manifolds yet as i haven't got the dipstick (unless someone can tell that it can be fitted with the right hand manifold in place). tomorrow it'll be back in the boat and as far forward as i can go less the missing parts.

i did have one major issue - the harmonic damper was not aligned with the water pump and after some investigation, it turned out the trigger wheel for the crank position sensor had been installed the wrong way round! more concerning was the fact that it was rubbing on the timing chain and if it had been started like that, the aluminium swarf would quiclky have wrecked the engine.

I'll be on the phone to the supplier on monday to discuss my compensation - labour and avoidance of a warranty claim. makes me wonder how many other engines have gone ouit of the factory like that....? i think sonme one ought to start thinking about a recall maybe. it's sorted now, but i'm glad we picked it up.

Cheers, Toby
