Searching for Logo Font /decal typeface...

Hi,
I'm looking for the font or typeface used for te Chris Craft logo to make a decal with my boat's name to make in chrome on the stern and on te instruments in my dash.

It doesn't nesceserally have to be the exact same font, but after browsing fonts for 3 days (seen litteraly thousands...) the Chris Craft font is the strongest, most luxurious and ehm.. sexy font I've seen yet..

There have to be people who've rebuild their decals or restored their logo's etc...?

Fonts that I've found that are in te right style include:
Streamline, MrRafkin, Rocket, Magneto.

Any tips / ideas are very welcome!

Thanks, not really what I was looking for, but might come in handy when I own (and have to redo some of the decals ~scare~) an actual Chris Craft.

Me thinks you didn't completely understand me, I
m not looking for the actual logo, but a font simmilar to that of Chris Craft (although it would be awesome to have exactly the same font) not to write the words "chris chraft" with, but the name of my own boat.

I own a yard built mahogany speedboat built in 1964 and it doesn't have any fancy writings or decals, no nothing! So I'd like to put up the name I gave the boat in equally kick-*** lettering as the famous brand-boats.
Mainly for looks ofcourse but also because she deserves her name in a beautifull font!

Anyways, the font I'm probably going with is called Rocket, from Font Bureau real cool 60's luxurious font that with a little editting looks really stunning..

Although, might anyone ever find the actual font for Chris Craft or Riva etc, please let me know, I just love that stuff..

I should have read better. It's going to be tough to find the font, especially if it's a really old boat as those logos were made before fonts and computers.

Another resource would be What The Font?: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

You can upload an image and it'll try to figure out the font.


Or try Identifont: http://www.identifont.com/

Wifey was a graphic designer before she became a teacher and recommends those resources.

That's about the best I can do.

Yeah, I came across those in my searches and they were a big help, it was through one of those that I found most of the fonts I picked to choose from, before that it was just going through endless pages of fonts that weren't at all what I was looking for in the hopes of catching a good one, like gold searching in a muddy river bed.. lol..
These sites helped me out a lot, so yes -although I allready found them- your wife is right that is propably the best place to start when looking for a specific kind of font.

And you're also right about the logo's being made before fonts and computers, that's probably the main reason why these logo's look so authentic and cool; instead of finding a logo that suits the lettering, they hired skilled artists to design the lettering for that specific name, so all letters look cool, not just the total name..
those were the days...

Anyway's, I was hoping maybe someone had rebuilt a font from that Riva or Chris Craft lettering ( you can find a lot of fonts derrived from logo's such as Ford and Ferrari etc) but I guess the makrt demand is too low.

At least I found a really cool font and my nameplate is gonna look awesome, now I need to find out how to make it in chrome!
The project continues!

I'll try not to forget to upload a pic of the end result, for now, here is a pic of the basic design with the editted Rocket font.

The name Latisse comes from Latis, a Celtic goddess of water and beer

LxAV, I took your designs and made them "chrome" for you... if you wanted to have them made in vinyl like this you wouldnt be abe to tell they were vinyl.

Try showing it to a sign shop. My mom brought in a picture of her mad river canoe font, and they found an exact match for the registration number. They had something like 2500 fonts or something, I'm sure they will have something that will be very close.

I ran through the same issue trying to find the font, what I ended up doing was taking the Chris Craft logo from brandsoftheworld, I took it apart in Adobe Illustrator than re-assembled it and adjusted it with the new text. Did a layer of metallic gold over a layer of white, it is on a navy background ... check it out ...

As it was already noted or commented on, the Chris Craft logo was designed not as a typeface or font, but for that finished piece itself.

The lettering style you chose would probably do well for you, but if you want it to look closer to the Chris Craft logo, you need to compress it horizontally and reduce the spaces between the letters.

To have this actually be made from brass and have it chromed, or have it done in stainless steel, would not be hard, however you would either have to deal with several loose pieces/letters, or bridge them, much like the automotive lettering badges for cars such as the Belair. You might also look at a typeface by that name, it is another in that same realm of styles.

As to fonts not existing then...
Fonts and typefaces have been around for centuries. Fonts just meant that lettering came from the fount or inkwell of a given designer, a singular version of a lettering style is what became known as a typeface when we advanced to moveable type thanks to Mr. Gutenburg.

It still involves searching but I have always had good luck with dafont.com also 3M makes a thicker gauge chrome or brushed vinyl taht can be cut and works well for emblems and such.

Wow, it's been two years since my first post, I abandoned the logo project when it seemed way too expensive for my budget to have it made in chromed brass (800 euro's!!) and I really didn't want to start experimenting with kitchen-built chroming setups..
In the end I had it CNC'd in polished RVS316 (rust-free-steel, dunno what that's called in English). The 'Amsterdam' letters are in a different font than my original design but the CNC machine kept on freezing with the smaller font..

Quite happy with the result!

I had to laugh very hard after having gone through the same process like yourself, looking like mad for styles, deciding and downloading "Rocket" font, and concluding a CNC from mirror-polished stainless steel would be "the" ultimate treat. - Having done so last year in designing my instruments dash board and knowing what it means in work I have to congratulate you on the result: simply stunning! - I was wondering:
- how thick [mm] did you choose the SS panel? and
- how did you mount all the pieces to your boat?

The surface I'd like to place my boat name is slightly curved (so it should bend a bit) and if ever possibly I would like to avoid drilling wholes into the hull of the boat. So your advice is much appreciated.
