Sears/Eska/Ted Williams 5hp info

Hi everyone,

Just picked up a Ted Williams 5.0 1997A for my boys to put on their 10' aluminum. This is our first experience working on an outboard. It seems to have very little use, starts and runs well. I suspect we need to change the impeller, and maybe seals in the lower end. A few questions:

Which impeller is correct for this motor? (looks like there are about 3 options for Eskas)

Is Champion J13Y the correct spark plug?

Are the 4.5/5/5.5 similar motors with good parts interchange or is the Sears Canada 1997A a bit of an oddball?

That is the impellor, used on alot of models. Thats the correct plug. 50:1 mix points set at .018-.020. Same powerheads in Canada as here. Tecumseh 643-22 and were made in Canada from 75-79 the 5hp being the smallest. In 76 they put a Twist grip on them.

I was a little concerned to hear that the guy I got it from had run it dry when he was servicing it. I ran it in a barrel this evening and all seemed well. Started no trouble and seemed to be pumping water fine.

Any tips on setting the idle adjustment?
