Hi, old motor which I think I would like to replace the engine / power if possible. I think this is 1984. Anyone know if there is a replacement powerhead available and where what model I could use. The engine is Tecumseh 643-35B on the tag.

Also any help in guiding on the process for removing the engine would be most helpful.

Thanks,
Dave

have you done a spark and compression test on the unit before sending it to the graveyard? based on your numbers you do have a 1984. i don't know of any leads on a new power head. if you do want to remove the power head here it goes, unbolt and remove cylinder shroud, flywheel, magneto, cylinder head, reed valve and covers.remove connecting rod cap and push the rod and piston unit out through top of cylinder the crankshaft can be removed from all models after removing shroud base."note on av520 and av600 models with plain rod bearing, lock tab must be bent away from connecting rod screws before loosening. on other models make certain that the bearing needles are not lost in the crankcase on all models it may be necessary to remove ridge from top of cylinder before pushing piston and connecting rod assembly out". hope that helps you, good luck i just love turning a wrench and making something run again.

this may be your last hope, now consider that this AV520 engine may be keyed for SSI or points all of which can be dealt with for $$, you won't know till you get it but its the last one, me and Mahty have the last new AV817's in the world. I don't know why I didn't buy them both last year........

I got mine, by God! I have rooted around some, and it looks like the short block for this motor is SBV 710411. I note that the SBV 710380 has a different crank. I worry that one may be a crank for SSI, the other may be for points. Not interchangeable.

you know I started to buy them both last year....but I was unsure about the water jacket.

If he really wants to repower and it is SSI he could still come up cheaper than a rebuild and belive me...parts like ring and pistons wil be PITA and take for ever to gather...I think I have the last AV817 new piston in the world or so it seems,,,if he could measure the bore of his engine so we know for sure if he has a AV520 that would be helpful. There is only one of those in stock and there won't be anymore when thats gone.

I'm going to put my new engine on my deluxe this winter and I have all the goodies to go with it...WOOT!
