Hi all,

I've been reading through the forums here. Lots of great info! I am having some poroblems identifying an old outboard motor I recently found, and hope that someone here may be able to help me out a bit.

It is a Sears Gamefisher 7.5 hp. I know it has a Tecumseh powerhead... I believe the Tecumseh number is 640-14a. The same tag also has the number 7067 on it. A plate on the side of the motor has 1323-11.

I have looked it over and over and can not find anything that resembles a Sears model number or serial number to further identify this thing for parts, etc. Where would the sears numbers be located? It has been painted, so I am hoping they are stamped somewhere and not on some decal that was painted over.

It starts fine on 1 or 2 pulls, runs for 30 seconds and stalls. I would like to go through the carb, but need replacement gaskets, parts, etc. Would be helpful to have the rest of the ID information.

Thanks!

Re: Sears Gamefisher 7.5 help

Doing a cross-reference check between model numbers and engine types, the only Sears 7.5 that used the 640-14a Tecumseh engine was made in 1977. Sears model number for that one is 217.585850

Reference link: http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_eska_sears.html

You can look up parts diagrams and part numbers at

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Put the model number in on that page and you'll find the parts lists and diagrams. Some parts are available from Sears. Others you can get from www.certifiedpartscorp.com. Call the phone number there with the Sears model number and engine model number. They'll have most things.

Luckily for you, this engine uses a standard magneto, rather than electronic ignition. The coil is available from Sears.

The fuel connector on your outboard is a standard Chrysler connector.

Re: Sears Gamefisher 7.5 help

Thanks a bunch for the info. My searches for the 640-14a type kept coming up empty. Helps if you know where to look! ;)
